2017 Porsche Panamera TURBO – Startup/Exhaust Video + 44 Photos

The new Panamera Turbo is all about headline numbers versus the rest of the range. 3.4-seconds to 60-mph. 190-mph top speed. All-new 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 with 550HP and a snarl worthy of the Porsche crest. The exterior is indeed very evolutionary from up front.  New PDLS+ and LED matrix lighting sets the car apart as the new model, as do the new intercoolers behind every nose hole.  Intercooler as fashion statement!  They are bright silver so definitely stand out to the eye — in the best way.   Around the side and rear end, the car looks much fresher.  A new windowline and roof/trunk interplay makes the Panamera look much more like a proper sedan versus a hatchback.  Which it still is. But with the new wagon Gran Turismo Panamera joining the range, this standard bodystyle is shifted toward the traditional super-sedan look.  Flowing lines in profile meet …

2017 Ford Explorer Platinum 4×4 – HD Road Test Review

As recently as ten years ago, all you had to ask for was a seven-seat SUV. The options were pretty limited and you found your way into various full-size Suburbans or Expeditions. These days, car shoppers have to get a lot more specific.  There are over 50 SUV and crossover models capable of seating seven.  But they are certainly not all equally capable. The Ford Explorer aims to be one of the largest mid-size SUVs out there – one with real seating in the third row and decent luggage room with all seats up.  The Explorer is very-much an SUV versus a crossover — in what it can tow/haul as well as how it drives day-to-day. It still delivers on the SUV premise it invented 25 years ago with the new-for-2017 facelift and Platinum trim level.  But is an LED lighting upgrade, satin chrome grille and posher cabin leather enough to make the …

~3.8s 2017 BMW M3/M4 Competition Pack – Gloss Black Trims, +20HP and Standard Sport Exhaust

Competition Pack from BMW M certainly implies track battles and knife-edged races against the stopwatch.  Every advantage that can be fed down from the top 500HP M4 GTS will be precious seconds closer to the top of any laptime board. But Competition Pack has a second meaning to us: the M3 and M4 are feeling major heat from all sides, in a segment they once owned wholeheartedly. The Lexus RC, C63 and even Cadillac ATS-V are all very valid, and oftentimes preferred, rivals to the BMW twins.  Therefore, the Competition Pack helps address some of the odd standard M3/M4 style choices.  The heavy chrome of the standard cars, for example.  Or their kitty-cat exhaust notes.  And perhaps, whisper it, a lack of visceral power? The M3/M4 Competition Pack adds 19-horsepower to achieve a round 450HP, and an equally round 4.0-seconds to 62-mph for the M3 and M4 Comps. The M4 …

~3.4s, 196MPH 2016 Ferrari CALI Turbo – New Handling Speciale Pack Sharpens Pace, Looks

Ferrari just unveiled one of its Geneva show debuts: the new Handling Speciale pack on the California Turbo. This promises quicker responses and more intense track settings. This is the first honing of the Cali since its refresh and new engine for 2015.  Upgrades are said to be pretty noticeable on the road — with the transmission and throttle maps now better matched for the V8TT’s power delivery. A shoutier quartet of pipes out back help too. Outside, the HS pack brings a few new elements in a matching matte finish. Grille bars, exhausts, diffuser and ventwork is all darkened.  This is extra nice in the nose: the new slats of the grille in expanding, 3D motif is retro but modern.  Its crispness makes a nice counterpoint to the flowing, curvy new nose.  Better looking and driving than ever is the word on the carretera!  The black roof and A-pillars …

210MPH GEIGER Dodge Viper GTS-R710 Boasts Reworked Headers, Cats, Exhaust and Ram Airbox

The Viper is incredible!  We fell hard for the brute recently, and love the tweaks GeigerCars created to make the car even better. A seriously reworked engine detailed below aims to help the 8.4-liter, 645HP stock V10 break free. Yes, this Viper is off the chain! But most of all, it howls higher and growls lower thanks to the new intake, headers and exhaust — all putting up the total output to 710 ponies. 2.9-seconds to 60-mph for this exact car, and pulling hard at its 212-mph official Vmax.   GEIGER Dodge Viper GTS-R710 PRESS RELEASE Dodge Viper GTS R710 Downsizing? Hybrid drive? The Dodge Viper has nothing to do with such fashionable eco-drivel. Without a turbo or supercharger in sight, this old style US muscle car draws its might from a naturally aspirated 8.4-litre V10 motor on which its reputation was built. 2017 GMC Canyon DENALI Wears Butch New Grille, 20s and LEDs – 31MPG DuraMax Diesel Optional

Despite all the excitement around the new generation of mid-size pickup trucks, the huge praise heaped on the Chevy Colorado has not yet translated into huge full-year sales numbers.  At least, not by US pickup market standards — where the F-Series from Ford nears 800k units annually in a good year.  (Not this launch year, mind you, with lots of factory down-time in the aluminum transition. Since the launch of the GMC Canyon and its bro, the Chevy Colorado, the two have been burning up the sale growth charts. Despite initial impressions of the GMC as the better-looking of the two based on initial images, the Colorado is the only one of the duo that we have driven. And it does appear to be more butch, more off-roady and more youthful than the Canyon. In the 2015 sales through August, the Colorado is outselling the Canyon by more than 2-to-1: …

Vorsteiner Reveals Extreme NOVARA Lamborghini HURACAN Aerokit

Latest gorgeous upgrades from Vorsteiner take a deep chop to the factory Lamborghini Huracan. Every element of the lower body is redone in motorsport-intense carbon fiber, while other GT3-inspired details shout to the heavens from the main bodywork. New slices in the fenders are beautiful, as is the sharper intake flic on the side pillars behind the glasshouse. In back, we see an alternative to the other Vorsteiner gooseneck wings — with latticework of carbon-fiber for the uprights. The plane of the wing matches each tilt and surface of the main bodywork, just raised nearly a foot off the trunklid for max-attack at all times. A full revamp of the rear bumper opens and darkens the look of the Huracan from the back, adding extremeness where the factory car is sedate painted bumper. Finishing the tune off are new wet-look black forged alloys with Pirelli color-stenciled tires. Intense!   Vorsteiner …

Car of the Year Review – 2015 Lexus RC-F

The RC-F was a true highlight among all the cars tested in 2015. And in the weeks since the Lexus sports flagship spent time in my garage, the deep longing and feelings for the car have not subsided. The first week was deep mourning at its absense, and the other seven stages of grief have passed over the CRD team like the eye of a hurricane. Finally, a bit of a light at the end of this tunnel: we must crown the RC-F the Car of the Year. In doing so, we honor its incredible strengths and the legacy it leaves behind! Four HD drive videos and a mega-batch of all-new photos to share along with this full drive review. Headings are the standard: Exterior, Interior, Performance, Pricing and Summary.     EXTERIOR Why so serious on the intro for this joy-bomb? Simply to express the gravity of its excellence, …
