Ford Unveils Trail Ready 2021 Bronco:

When it comes to the off-road market, the benchmark for the past several decades has been the Jeep Wrangler. Blending impressive off-road capability with an impressive degree of heritage and aftermarket capability, the Wrangler has been the undisputed king of a very lucrative niche of the broader SUV market. Many have tired to challenge it over the years (including past iterations of Bronco,) but all failed to knock the Wrangler off its perch. However, Ford is confident that it has what it takes to pull the upset of the century, and it has revived the legendary Bronco nameplate to do …

Now more than ever, our vehicles have become our sanctuaries. And if you’re like us, you think, why not make my sanctuary a big, luxurious, comfy and powerful one? Allow us to introduce the perfect place to hang out – the 2020 Nissan Armada. Armada Exterior –Big, Bold, Style One thing we like about Nissan is that they don’t just do the same vehicle in different sizes. 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser – Off-Road Test Review – By Matt Barnes

What can be said about the 200 series Land Cruiser that hasn’t already been said? It’s been around since 2008 and has only had a few meaningful changes since then. For 2020, there is an all new Heritage Edition that removes the rear seats and center armrest cooler and adds a roof rack, BBS forged wheels, and special badges. Other than that, little has changed from the 2019 model year. For our review, Toyota sent us a base model Land Cruiser for a week. With some light emerging at the end of the tunnel, the Bronco was supposed to finally make its debut on July 9th, but Ford has revealed that it was forced to formally push the Bronco’s debut forward a few more days. But other than making its rounds on the auto show circuit as well as visiting select Land Rover showrooms in the U.S. (our local dealer had one visit earlier this year) U.S. buyers have been waiting a very long time to get their hands on one. Cadillac’s innovative Super Cruise technology has had a very rocky launch since it was first formally unveiled in the CT6 sedan a few years ago. Back then, Cadillac promised to roll out the technology across the bulk of its lineup, but those plans largely never materialized, and the system remained a CT6 exclusive. But that’s all changing now, with the 2021 Escalade being the next recipient of the technology according to a report from the Cadillac Society forum. Following hot on the heels of its bold debut in Los Angeles earlier this year, EPA figures for the 2021 Cadillac Escalade have emerged, and it appears that the news is not good, with the numbers revealing that there has been little to no improvement for the 6.2 liter gasoline fueled base engine especially in freeway mileage.   While figures for the optional 3.0 liter diesel six cylinder were not released as of this writing, the writing is on the wall for V8 equipped Escalades with rear wheel drive, with city figures improving by only 1 mpg at 15, while …

Cadillac Releases Lone Image Of Bigger Escalade ESV Model, Bigger and More Spacious Than Ever

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade has managed to turn its fair share of heads since it made its debut in Los Angeles earlier this year. Bollinger Motors has big plans for the 2021 model year. We had the chance to have a glimpse at this future when we witnessed the unveiling of the B1 SUV as well as the B2 SUV in Ferndale last year. The company also revealed pricing for the duo shortly after, but while the B1 and B2 will serve as a figurative spearhead into the EV truck and utility markets, the company needed to shore up its chassis technology in order to take advantage of more markets. Jaguar is a company that is finally embracing the winds of change. While its counterpart Land Rover was always known as the SUV side of the coin, Jaguar was perfectly content with being the option for people that wanted sporty luxury cars that also infused high degrees of style and design in their flanks. Our first outing the the Palisade was up at the beautiful Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC and the surrounding mountains.  As you can read and watch, we hauled our butts up a mountain then did some off-roading in a mad caravan of Palisades.  We looked like a villain’s entourage with so many black luxury SUVs in convoy form! Indeed, the Defender came packed with capability, and it also had a very impressive bloodline that traced its roots back to some of the first Land Rovers ever produced. 2019 Buick Enclave Premium FWD – Review by Ben Lewis

We recently tested the Buick Regal TourX and concluded that it’s a sweet sport wagon – and not the big and friendly family Roadmaster wagon of day’s past. What if a big comfy wagon is what you’re looking for? As we like to say, step right this way, to the 2019 Buick Enclave. Sleek 7-seater If you’re hoping for slabs of plasticized pine, you’ll be disappointed here. On …

2020 Toyota Highlander Teases Sleeker Design With 3D Images

Over the years we have become used to automakers releasing various images and teaser sketches to try and build as much hype as possible for the model that they are going to unveil at an auto show. For a long time, Toyota has fitted this well worn mold with the Japanese auto giant offering various teaser images and sketches of many of its models before their respective world debuts. However, for the 2020 Highlander, Toyota has decided to throw convention out the window, and has taken a rather unorthodox approach to showing the world a preview of its upcoming big …

2019 Volkswagen Atlas R-Line V6 – Road Test Review – By Matt Barnes

The Volkswagen Atlas is a vehicle that rides, drives and handles much smaller than it actually is. For 2019, it has been updated to include more standard features across the lineup, including forward collision warning, blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Our test vehicle was the SE w/ Technology R-line model equipped with the 3.6 liter V6 and 8-speed automatic. Mid-size SUVs have been gaining in popularity for quite some time now, which is a great thing for buyers in this segment. Being in a profitable segment means that there is a lot of R&D put into these vehicles, …

Concept Flashback – 2011 Unimog 60th Anniversary Design Concept

While we’re in the Unimog mood, here is a fun look back to the recent past for the 60 Years design concept. This sought to strip the Unimog to its core, function-required elements. Enhancing the insane wheel travel and semi-flexible chassis with showy red springs visible easily through the giant front fender/hood combination. Deconstruction and modernization are the clearest themes visible in this design. The bodywork is pared to the bare minimum, while the roll cage for the passenger cell becomes the only structural element of the open-air cabin. Similarly flowing new frame rails swoop upward around the rear suspension …

2019 Volvo XC90 T8 E-AWD – Road Test Review – By Ben Lewis

Volvo has had a renaissance for a few years now. From its hearty agrarian roots, to its German-baiting performance years, to now – a Premium Luxury division with impeccable style, the brand is extraordinarily capable of reinventing itself, while still keeping a Volvo a Volvo. And nowhere is that more notable than the Volvo XC90 T8 E-AWD we recently tested. Meet Thor’s Hammer While its design is closely related to the Volvo XC60 we tested, the larger proportions of the XC90 really give visual heft, and conveys a premium quality. Our tester was all that, starting with a bold front end, …

2018 Toyota Land Cruiser – Off-Road & Towing Review – By Matt Barnes

The Toyota Land Cruiser has a loyal global following, and for good reason. It is one of the most reliable, longest lasting vehicles in automotive history. Cruisers are lauded as the ultimate overlanding vehicle. There are many different variants sold throughout the world, but here in the United States, we get one model with one trim level, and only one available option package. Unless you account for the Lexus LX570, which offers a few more features and a more luxurious interior. To test the capability of the Land Cruiser, we decided to head into the desert hills to see what …

Mercedes-Benz G-Class INFERNO by TopCar Design

We were famously unimpressed by the new G-wagen’s lack of visual impact when it was first released.  The new panels all around barely made a dent in updating the machine! Time was warmed our impression of the redesign — which was more focused on interior and performance upgrades, while deliberately keeping the exterior style almost frozen in 1979. TopCar Design to the rescue! The new aftermarket options for the latest G-Class generation are quite comprehensive, functional and visually exciting on such a big beast of a truck.  There are dozens of aero tweaks and detail modifications in carbon-fiber throughout the …

Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Brings New Tricks to Grizzled Veteran, Heralds Updates for Rest of TRD Pro Range

Toyota’s TRD Pro lineup has always been defined by three iconic entries (Tacoma, 4Runner and Tundra) and while these three each bring something unique to Toyota buyers. (we will be spending time behind the wheel of the Tundra TRD Pro after we return to Metro Detroit) Something always seemed to be missing. Toyota has filled this void by unveiling the all new Sequoia TRD Pro which brings some of the TRD Pro allure in a decidedly beefy full size SUV package. The Sequoia’s entry into the TRD Pro ranks was designed to help give the nearly 20 year old model …

Road Test Review – 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV Premium Luxury (4WD) – By Carl Malek

When we had our chance to experience the 2018 Lincoln Navigator Black Label sometime ago, we adored its interior, elegant driving manners, and its yacht-esque styling both inside and out. We were so impressed, that we decided to test its chops with a road trip to northern and western Michigan where it performed almost flawlessly. But we always had an eye on giving domestic rival Cadillac the chance to issue a rebuttal. Cadillac reps obliged, and allowed us to experience an Escalade on our home turf. But can the Escalade (a model that once dominated older Navigator iterations in sales) …

2018 Lexus GX460 – On & Off-Road Test Review – By Matt Barnes

Badged as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado worldwide, the Lexus GX460 is a luxuriously adorned version for the United States and other upscale markets. The underpinnings are as durable as one would expect from a Toyota product with all the luxury of a Lexus. Interior The GX460 is a very luxurious vehicle with all the features you would expect in a Lexus. The leather is soft and supple, with heated and ventilated seats. Road Test Review – 2018 Lincoln Navigator Black Label – By Carl Malek

When Lincoln revamped the Navigator full-sized SUV for 2018, they had a lot of ground to make up. Once an innovator in the full size luxury SUV segment when it first made its debut in 1998, the big Lincoln generated a lot of attention, and even inspired Cadillac to make its own entry, the Cadillac Escalade. However, the Navigators that followed failed to maintain this initial momentum, with the situation growing increasingly dire in 2015 when the refreshed third generation Navigator appeared. Lacking the precision and attention to detail that had become a staple of the fore-mentioned Escalade, that iteration …

Hyundai Unveils Luxurious Three Row Palisade In L.A.

Following a very meticulous teaser campaign that revealed an all new Hyundai three row SUV was indeed in the works to replace the long running and outgoing Santa Fe XL (as well as a sneak peek we received at a recent company event,) the Korean car giant has finally confirmed what many had suspected, the arrival of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The exterior styling of the Palisade is still very utilitarian, but Hyundai designers managed to incorporate plenty of lines and curves into the design. This is especially apparent in the front and rear fascias, with these areas featuring the …

2019 Subaru ASCENT Premium – Road Test Review – By Ben Lewis

We’ve always admired that Subaru stays true to its roots. A clever mix of marketing and engineering makes Subie owners set apart from the crowd. And in an age where so many brands seem to offer similar products, that difference is a fresh and welcome breeze. That said, Subaru doesn’t operate in a vacuum – they have to offer vehicles that buyers want. A perfect example is the 3-row crossover. Right now, that 7-passenger capability is a hot ticket, and we’ve seen everything from the new VW Tiguan to Kia Sorento stepping up to snag a bite of that apple. …

Hyundai Confirms Palisade Name For New Three Row SUV Ahead of LA Auto Show Debut

Hyundai has so far kept a very tight veil of secrecy surrounding its new 3-row flagship SUV with only a few light teasers, and a preceding concept hinting at its existence, but with LA fast approaching, the Korean car giant has finally confirmed a small slice of information, and revealed the official name for this very important utility offering, Palisade.   Depending on who you ask, the Palisade moniker is derived from a whole swath of inspiration. The new Nissan Armada is looking fresh and dapper — as well as huge — across the more affluent areas of the globe since 2017. Here is a machine that shares every panel with either the Infiniti QX80 or the global Nissan Patrol variant — but still has a fresh face that has the curb appeal of any of the jumbo SUVs in 2018 and beyond.  The new LED DRL lighting style in the headlamps is fresh and standard across the board, while the two-tone paintwork with contrasting fender extensions make a nice, slarry statement. The SRT 392 Durango is by far the best-looking Durango produced to date. The SRT package takes the Durango from mundane to monstrous. As we spent more time with it, the Durango just kept growing on us to the point that we didn’t want to return it. Exterior It’s nice to know that the hood vents and scoop are real and have an actual purpose, something not seen on many vehicles today, performance or otherwise. Road Test Review – 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander LE 2.4 S-AWC – By Carl Malek

Let’s face it, crossovers and SUVs have become the new normal for many American families often serving as a replacement for the family sedan (oh how the times have changed.) However, amid the sea of established entries from the likes of Chevrolet, Hyundai, Toyota, and Ford one plucky underdog is still hanging in there, Mitsubishi. Following three years of teasers, speculation, and spy shots, Rolls Royce has at long last unveiled its first ever SUV, the 2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan which aims to bring Bentayga fighting power, luxury, and opulence to the growing elite luxury SUV segment. Taking its name after the largest single diamond ever discovered on the planet, the Cullinan is a symbol of the future for Rolls Royce, which was once known for being exclusively a manufacturer of traditional automobiles. Remember when sport SUVS once ruled the automotive landscape? Indeed in the 90’s and early 2000’s there was a period in time when these muscle bound behemoths were the proverbial jewels in the pocket books of the Detroit Big Three. But once gas prices rose, and the economic recession took hold, the segment went out with a whimper, and nearly disappeared. Road Test Review – 2018 Audi Q7 3.0T – By Carl Malek

With the way crossover entries have evolved over the past several decades, automakers are scrambling to keep more established entries relevant as the segment rapidly evolves. One of these is the venerable Audi Q7 which is the biggest and most opulent (for the moment) entry fielded by the German luxury car giant. When it first appeared in the U.S. back in 2007, it represented a seismic shift for Audi, and turned the once car focused brand into a more balanced juggernaut. As for the Q7, it was a key entry in Volkswagen’s greater ploy towards expanding its diesel lineup. This …

2018 VW Atlas V6 SEL Premium w/ 4Motion – Road Test Review + Video

A recent comment on our amazing VW Atlas youtube drive review has really stuck in my craw. “Atlas is not a Tahoe competitor,” they say. “Atlas competes with Pilot and Highlander, dude,” is the refrain. And I used to agree with these guys. On paper, Atlas with its seating for 8 and pricing from $30k, might seem like a natural rival to car-based midsize crossovers.  It even runs a standard turbo four and front-wheel drive, after all!  (Same for new Q7 on the turbo four…) But Atlas is so much more than a proper three-row rival to Explorer and Durango. …

Seems like every manufacturer has their “Luxury Flagship SUV” these days, and Nissan is no exception. While most of these are more luxo-barge than flagship, there are a few that remain true to the real SUV credo of ruggedness, capability and anywhere anytime composure. Rolls Royce Teases “Viewing Suite” Ahead of Cullinan Unveiling

As Rolls Royce beings the final preparations for the unveiling of the brand’s first ever SUV, the British luxury maker has turned up the wick on teasers for the upcoming Cullinan. Best of NYIAS – 2018 Lincoln NAVIGATOR – 450HP, 10-Speed

There have been three or four times in my lifetime when Lincoln Motor Company seemed like it was really on to something.  It had a lot to prove: we only knew it as the Town Car company.  Certainly not a credible luxury contender. The Jag-look Continental of the late 1990s had us doing double takes, even if it was a total boat and deeply FWD from behind the wheel.  Or when the first Nav arrived. Then when the LS sedans came out.  A luxed-up, 4-door Mustang for Lincoln sounded great! But these moments for Lincoln were one-offs. Flukes, almost, in …

Audi Q8 Confirmed for 2019 Modelyear [22 New Photos]

We love the designs of both Q8 concepts seen so far: the original in blue at Detroit and this new Q8 Sport Concept from Geneva and NY auto shows.  The bodycolor intake flares in front are gorgeous, the new nose and tail are shockingly cool and fender flares always win friends.  We only dislike its slightly nerdy roofline in profile. 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4 at Amelia Island Concours [45 Photos]

Ever wanted a truck that was so outrageous it might stop traffic dead on sight? Welcome to the G-Class 4×4-squared. This G550 4×4 even upstages the G65 parked right beside it.  This “normal” twin-turbo V12 G-wagen looks like a child’s toy parked next to the 4×4! The G65 and this G550 are actually priced pretty similarly.  The 4×4 comes in G550 and G63 variants, with this G550 coming in at about $220k.  The G65 is just a few thousand more and will be MUCH quicker.  But not nearly as outlandish.   2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4

2017 Ford Explorer Platinum 4×4 – HD Road Test Review

As recently as ten years ago, all you had to ask for was a seven-seat SUV. The options were pretty limited and you found your way into various full-size Suburbans or Expeditions. These days, car shoppers have to get a lot more specific.  There are over 50 SUV and crossover models capable of seating seven.  But they are certainly not all equally capable. The Ford Explorer aims to be one of the largest mid-size SUVs out there – one with real seating in the third row and decent luggage room with all seats up.  The Explorer is very-much an SUV versus a …

Launch Gallery – 2017 Land Rover DISCOVERY

Ahhh-roooo-bahhh! Definitely lives up to its One Happy Island tagline. The hilly island is the perfect backdrop for the all-new Discovery. Just kidding!  Many of these pics were labelled Aruba… but that is the name of the color. =]   Photos from Utah.  Aruba does have awsome cliffs and red rock… but much more ocean and flora all around.  Our real clue was seeing snow in one of the photos. The 2017 Discovery arrives around April/May to US showrooms with pricing from $50k to $74k.  Two engines: the supercharged gas six or a turbodiesel that adds about $8k to the base price. …

2018 Dodge Durango SRT

4.4s, 475HP 2018 Dodge Durango SRT Revealed + Video

There is something hypnotic about watching the new SRT Durango churn all four wheels in a hard burnout!  The video below is the perfect intro to such an awesome machine.  The best part of this burnout!!?  He never actually moves an inch! But the idea of the SRT392 engine with AWD and all the Hellcat-inspired suspension/grip upgrades seems insanely smart.  The numbers speak for themselves.  A 4.4-second launch matches the SRT392 itself thanks to the four-paw grip. The SRT Durango also has a giant tow rating and herculean bellow for all seven passengers to enjoy! 2018 Dodge Durango SRT …

2017 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum 4WD 9

2017 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum 4WD – Road Test Review + New Photos!

The new Pathfinder is quite the looker in this flashy Sandstone paintwork! It is quite unusual for a family crossover to attract as much attention as this beauty received in our care for a week.  The facelift definitely works at reinvigorating the Pathfinder’s style, then. But the 2017 refresh for the Pathfinder is actually more than skin-deep. An all-new 3.5-liter V6 is the big news under the redesigned hood – upping the tow rating to 6000-pounds and juicing the 0-60 times as well. Is the refresh enough to make the Pathfinder top of the class with the Toyota Highlander, …
