As McLaren GTR models, Porsche GT3 and Ferrari XX cars show — there is a huge business for track-focused and track-only supercars. Stripped of production frippery and shod with racing shocks and rubber, these cars are undoubtedly more intense and more focused on track.
But what if you went the other way entirely? Instead of beefing up a production supercar for racing, how about adding some comforts to a pure race-car?
The result is the very new 2015 Ultima Evolution Coupe and Spider. Three power outputs of Chevrolet Racing V8’s are available, with the top dog delivering a massive 1020 horsepower to the Porsche-built rear six-speed transaxle.
The 2015 car is hugely improved and redesigned for added style outside: the car is now dripping with custom LEDs and carbon-fiber, new gel-coat paints have that ‘still-wet’ look, and a new split-level rear wing improves downforce and rearward visibility.
Inside, full AC now blows colder, while all the FIA-spec roll cage is wrapped in leather. Carpet floors with leather piping also up the luxury ante a bit, while keeping the car’s weight well under 2,000 pounds.
The most impressive aspect of the Ultima Evolution is its fantastic production quality, with artful details all around to captivate the eye: the high-mounted exhaust tubes have the precision feel of a camera lense, or perhaps a high-tech tank’s cannon.
Another incredible detail? A convertible option with fantastic open-air look and chopped, wrap-around windshield!
Now on to the down-side… the Ultima Evo is sold globally, but is not road-legal in the US. Even so, there is no faster or more hardcore track car than the new Ultima Evo.
