Toyota Teases 2020 Tacoma Ahead of Chicago Debut

In an announcement that it revealed yesterday, Toyota has confirmed that it will be showcasing an all new version of its venerable Tacoma pickup truck at the Chicago Auto Show in February. The unveiling of the all new Tacoma comes at a key time in the model’s history, especially considering that the once dominant king of the mid-size truck segment now faces an all new field of contenders that aim to steal its sales throne from its wheel arches. Admittably, Toyota’s announcement lacks key details, but the company has released a lone darkened teaser image that showcases the front end of the all new Tacoma that is set against a sillouhetted mountain backdrop at dusk. The apperance of the all new Tacoma comes at a time when the best selling mid-size pickup truck on the market is facing a two pronged assault from both the recently unveiled Ford Ranger, as …

2018 RAM 2500 Limited 4×4 Long Box – Road Test Review – By Matt Barnes

When thinking of an HD pickup truck, the first things that come to mind are diesel power and a terrible ride. Only one of those two things is true with the 2018 Ram 2500 Limited Crew Cab 4×4 Long Box. Our test vehicle came with a lot of upgrades and packages, making it one of the most comfortable three-quarter ton trucks we have ever driven. Exterior This was an attractive truck from nearly any angle. It really stood out from all the other vehicles around it due to its enormous size and alluring deep indigo red paint. The Limited Tungsten package added a lot of wonderful exterior details to the truck with 20-inch satin carbon rims, halogen projector headlamps, black tail lamps, tungsten power folding trailer tow mirrors, tungsten badges, and body colored handles, running boards and tailgate badge. The large 285/60R20 tires felt undersized, but that is simply because …

Why Americans Love Trucks

The United States is known for a lot of great things — barbeque, football, apple pie, bald eagles and Play-Doh, just to name a few. The U.S. is also known for its nearly universal love of pickup trucks. These vehicles are among the most popular in the country. Why are trucks so popular in America? A Long and Varied History We haven’t always been able to run to the grocery store to bring home the bacon — just a couple hundred years ago, more than 95 percent of American citizens lived and worked on farms. By the early 1900s, that number dropped to only 35 percent, but farmers still relied on wagons pulled by horses to get their goods from the farm to the people who needed it. America is a huge country, so getting food products from farm to market before they spoiled was a bit of a challenge. …

2017 Nissan TITAN SL 4×4 – Road Test Review

Trucks are all about strength.  Why not have more towing, hauling and running power than you might need?  There is huge peace of mind in knowing you have so much excess capability. At some point, though, that extra muscle makes life more difficult.  That point is arguably between 1500 and 2500 pickups.  Yes, the 2500s have even more giant motors and higher tow ratings.  The new Nissan Titan bridges this gap and aims for 1500 ease of use but near 2500 size and stats. The Titan XD straddles that gap perfectly and the XD option comes standard with the 5.0-liter Cummins TDV8.  This new Titan SL – sans the XD upgrade – is cheaper, nimbler and slightly quicker than its big XD brother.  Without sacrificing any of the road presence or curb appeal of the gigantic XD. Think of the The Rock as the XD versus Vin Diesel for the …

In Pictures: 2017 GMC Canyon Denali 4×4 SWB Crew

Hard to hide the disappointment we had with the 2017 Canyon Denali.  This was a delayed-release flagship for GMC’s midsize trucks.  Denali models usually have everything standard and are a big, big upgrade in luxury style and amenities. This Canyon Denali does have a huge standard equipment list and a new grille to its credit.  But overall, the amount of Denali badges is the biggest change you will notice. Underwhelming on the off-road course with these low, low running boards.  Not thrilled that the GMC Canyon’s LED light accents are not actually DRLs.  And bummed to find regular halogen reflectors for all the lighting.  No moonroof and somehow the cabin feels crummier than Tacoma Limited these days, even if Canyon’s drive position and seats beat the Toyota.    Pricing at $45k demands better. Denali in name only, this one.   2017 GMC Canyon Denali 4×4 SWB Crew You May Also …

Insider: Don’t Buy a Used Truck Without Completing This Checklist

Many auto dealerships only sell “certified” used cars, but you should still go over the vehicle with a fine-toothed comb. Kicking the tires isn’t enough. Perform the following eight actions before you say, “I’ll take it.” 1. Shop in Daylight Don’t shop for your used truck at night. Examine any vehicle in full daylight on level ground. This ensures you see all defects and levels out engine fluids. When you browse Southwest Motors full line up of used Trucks or any other dealer’s inventory, it’s best to do it in bright daylight.   2. Inspect Joints Run your fingers along all joining edges to make certain they are level. Visually inspect for rust. Glance down the truck’s body to identify unevenness or dents. Confirm there is no plastic bodywork by sticking a magnet to all truck panels.   3. Don’t Forget the Roof If the roof has any raised areas, …

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Concepts Preview 2017 Production Pickups!

An ultra-strong ladder frame, big straight-six engines and Mercedes drive manners? Mercedes today previews its future ‘crossover’ and first-ever pickup with the Concept X-Class.  This will be less of a crossover but a smart combination of MB’s truck and car resources.  Those Unimog genes and grip… now in a $70k luxury size! Two models are shown: a posh AMG-style look in shimmery white.  Low suspension and performance stance are hot.  The nose is actually pretty sexy, but has nothing on its gorgeous LED tail.  A swirlly ribbon of red LED is the brake light in back. THe other truck is the offroad variant.  Matte paintwork, black flares and giant rubber make this a worthy Raptor rival. These are the first concepts, so expect some toned-down production elements on the real X-Class. We’re onboard and jealous of the world markets who are getting the X-Class first around June of 2017.  No …
