GMC & EarthCruiser Officially Unveil Hummer EarthCruiser EV Overlander

Following a lone teaser image that GMC and EarthCruiser released a short while back, the two companies have finally revealed the finished product, the GMC Hummer EarthCruiser, with the model designed to enhance the Hummer’s off-road capabilities while also giving owners a unique option to hunker down for the night out in parts unknown.

Part Trail Warrior, Part RV, All Hummer

This creation starts life as a base Hummer EV pickup (and we use the term “base” very loosely), with EarthCruiser mounting a living space in the Hummer’s pickup bed. While this greatly reduces how much stuff you can haul with your rig, the house-like living space comes loaded with a number of trail-ready features while also offering space to relax when it’s fully raised up.

A 605-watt solar generator is paired with a 6-kWh 12V lithium-ion battery setup. The company claims this kit gives the overlander enough power to last seven days out in the wilderness. The stored power allows occupants to power numerous appliances and accessories, including refrigerators, freezers, and other adventure-ready gear. Step inside the pop-up camper-style shell, and you’ll find that the space has plenty of amenities, including storage for items, shower facilities, power outlets, and even a flat-pack toilet. A full-size bed is also included, and the space has a small touchscreen to help control various features. Neither company revealed how much additional weight the whole setup adds to the 9,000 lb plus Hummer, but we suspect that if the 13.5-gallon freshwater and smaller 7-gallon grey water tank (for the sinks and shower) are fully filled, the rig could potentially cross the 10,000 lb barrier.

When Can I Buy One?

The GMC Hummer EarthCruiser is slated to be available next year, with potential buyers going through EarthCruiser’s website to order and begin the installation process formally. However, as mentioned in our prior coverage on this,  the prominent caveat is that GMC will not cover the kit with the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, claiming that the EarthCruiser’s modifications fall outside the scope of it while also confirming it’s not responsible for alterations from independent suppliers. Buyers looking to get a glimpse will be able to see it at the Overland Mountain West Expo In Loveland, Colorado, from August 24 to August 27, where it will be displayed at the event.
