PART TWOÂ OF FOUR:
2014 Toyota Highlander TRAVEL ADVENTURE SERIES
We’re still preparing the full review of the outstandingly smooth, easy and relaxing 2014 Toyota Highlander XLE.
But there is a slight problem! Far too many great photos! =]
Granted, it is a good problem to have. Especially for a new and sleek machine like this Highlander.
The 2014 Highlander might be a bread/butter crossover model to many people, but to owners: it is a godsend. Small(ish) on the outside, huge on the inside.
The new Highlander is extremely affordable but luxurious – and even really hustles on the roads with the XLE’s standard 270-horsepower V6 and six-speed automatic. It is a really sweet machine overall – one which truly has something to offer every single one of us. Good seats, great perceived cabin quality and materials, and up-to-date tech solutions like Bluetooth and Voice-activated navigation and infotainment.
For families who need a hauler that is large and versatile, the Highlander from $30,000 really checks all the boxes very convincingly. What are your big crossover needs?
Be they seven (or eight as standard!) seats, a huge cargo area, flawless reliability, and even a subtle dash of style – the Highlander really is quite accomplished.
Towing capacity? 5,000 pounds.
Fuel economy with the FWD V6? A true 20/25-MPG that rarely dips below 18-MPG, ever.
But the biggest surprise of all? The 2014 Highlander drives nicely and is even pretty quick!
All while being Toyota-reliable and smoother than any other crossover or SUV this side of the air-suspension-option Audi Q7 or Jeep Grand Cherokee.
PHOTO LOCATION – PATRIOT’S POINT, Charleston SC
Billing itself as a Hands-on History Lesson, Patriot’s Point is indeed a living museum. There are submarines and dozens of aircraft as well as the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier to visit while here.
The Yorktown itself is absolutely huge – and it is one of the smaller craft before the Nimitz-class carriers came online well after the second world war.
One special Yorktown highlight? Tour groups can spend the night in the authentic naval barracks down below!
The deck of the Yorktown today houses numerous planes and other attractions, while various tours of the hangers and engine rooms below are on offer for public visitors.
Granted, the deck is not nearly as packed as it was in this photo from 1940…
