Chevrolet Opens Order Books for Equinox EV, Confirms Beefed Up Pricing

Chevrolet has officially opened up order books for the 2024 Equinox EV but while the SUV is rapidly taking a step closer to full-scale distribution, the news also comes with a noticeable caveat with GM confirming that it has scrubbed the “around $30,000” pricing that it originally promised for the model when it first made its debut.

Higher Pricing Confirmed For Equinox EV

Before we get into the figurative meat and potatoes that define the Equinox EV itself, we might as well spend some time talking about the key talking point that many prospective buyers will notice, the revised pricing. The company revealed that pricing for the model will now begin at $34,995 with the higher trims going as high as $52,395. Like other GM EVs that we have seen over the past few years, Chevrolet is launching the most expensive models first with the rest of the trim ladder coming later. The revised pricing for the 1LT is a $5,000 increase over what we were told in 2022 and could perhaps be a response to changing factors in the broader EV market including the lingering effects of inflation.

GM did say though that the Equinox EV will be eligible for the full $7,500 green tax credit which would help lower the price of the base 1LT to just under $28,000. The company also confirmed that the FWD 1LT is capable of achieving a manufacturer-estimated range of 319 miles which is 19 more than the 300 mile figure we were told prior. In addition to the 1LT, Chevy will also be offering RS models that will not only bring more equipment to the EV, but also more performance with the front-wheel drive model making 210-horsepower while the dual-motor equipped all-wheel drive model gets a 290-hp setup. Equipment will also be a prominent part of the Equinox EV experience with the model getting goodies such as a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-In technology, Safety Alert Seat, Super Cruise and even 21-inch wheels on some models.

When Can I Buy One?

Chevrolet is not ready to talk about when it will formally begin deliveries of the Equinox EV but confirmed that it will begin taking orders in the first week of November. The Equinox EV will come at an interesting time for GM with the company changing its outlook on EVs. The company altered its plans for long-term EV production and also pushed back the launch of other models including the aforementioned Equinox EV, Silverado RST EV and the GMC Sierra EV. However, that hasn’t put a damper on early reservations with the brand confirming that over 200,000 people have already made early reservations for all.
