Ford Prepares To Take On Pikes Peak With 1,421 hp Mach-E

Ford seems to have a knack for conquering the Pike’s Peak hill climb event. The brand got top honors in its class last year with the all-electric SuperTruck which followed up on the near-win performance of the equally outrageous SuperVan hill climb vehicle. This year, Ford is moving on from trucks and vans and is instead taking a different approach to the hill climb with the “Super Mach-E” which brings more power and more technology to the hill climb.

More power is always good

Unlike the SuperVan and SuperTruck which made 1,400 hp from their electric powerplants, the “Super Mach-E” increases power to 1,421 hp. This may not seem like much of an increase, but Ford engineers had to be very careful with how much power they added to make sure they didn’t overwhelm the platform and the sensitive electronics that lurk deep inside the race car. A 50.0 kWh battery pack provides power to three electric motors with the entire setup being lighter than last year’s SuperTruck.

We’re continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible with electric vehicles. This Super Mustang Mach-E demonstrator represents the next stage in our electrification journey—lighter, leaner, just as powerful, and more capable in high-altitude competition.’ — Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance

All of that power is welcome but it won’t mean much if the Mach-E can’t put it all efficiently on the road. Ford made sure that wouldn’t be an issue thanks to carbon brakes, specially constructed magnesium tires, and an extensive body and aero kit with all the pieces (including the large rear wing) helping to generate 6,900 lbs of downforce at 150 mph. In the highly unlikely event the racer reaches 200 mph on the course that figure grows to 12,000 lbs. These results are not only better than Ford’s past two vehicles but also better than some of the initial estimates the company had when they began work on the Super Mach-E.

Can it give Ford a repeat win?

Slip inside the Super Mach-E and the interior is pure function and relatively straightforward too with the space only having room for one seat, a steering wheel, and essential gear with the entire passenger side of the vehicle being used for various pieces of equipment. It will be interesting to see if the Mach-E can help the company secure a repeat win after the strong showing Ford had with the SuperTruck last year. Driver and Pikes Peak veteran Romain Dumas is confident that the Super Mach-E can do the job stating After last year’s incredible run with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck and SuperVan 4.2 before it, I’m honored to be back with Ford to take on this challenge once again. This Mach-E is a different beast, and we’re excited to see what it can do on the mountain.’

The 2025 Pikes Peak hill climb is scheduled to take place on June 22nd.Â
