Toyota Teases Next Generation 2025 Land Cruiser, Drops New Hints On Retro Design

Toyota is promising that it will rock the world with the next-generation 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, but while our past glimpses of the off-roader have been limited to shadowy silhouettes that left little to the imagination and a current generation model that’s still exclusive to the international market, this latest teaser finally provides a formal glimpse of the design, which is expected to have a heavy retro theme.

Blending Old and New Into One Distinct Land Cruiser Package

While this latest glimpse is an improvement over prior teasers, we still don’t get to see the whole SUV. Instead, we get a cropped view of the front end, with the SUV being photographed alongside a Land Cruiser FJ62 model. The pair being photographed together confirms that the exterior styling will take some of its inspiration from that model, with the rectangular-shaped headlights flanked by an egg-crate grille with the “TOYOTA” script vividly present. That said, look for some elements of the 21st century to bleed into the design too, to help the SUV comply with current safety regulations.

The front fenders also adopt blocky shapes but look for the SUV also to add in plenty of modern touches to not only help balance things out but to also promote its connection to other Toyota models. The front bumper also appears to be raised to help improve approach angles, but it remains to be seen what other upgrades the Land Cruiser will bring to the table. Furthermore, this teaser also confirms that the Land Cruiser will not be a mere copy-and-paste job, and there will be a discernible boundary between it and the Lexus GX, in key areas, which will not only help avoid sales cannibalization but also promote a unique identity among the two, especially among Toyota enthusiasts and Land Cruiser loyalists that might not want to see Lexus appointments on a rugged trail-ready Toyota.

Look for the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser to be formally unveiled later this year, with the company releasing more teaser images over the next few months. The Land Cruiser will be entering a renewed off-road SUV segment that has seen other icons emerge from the dead, including the Land Rover Defender.
