Hyundai Unveils 2024 Kona, Will Be Global Offering With Radical Redesign

It’s no secret that Hyundai has been hard at work on the next generation Kona thanks to various prototypes that we have spotted running around select parts of Metro Detroit. However, the Korean car giant has chosen (surprisingly) to not only unveil the 2024 Kona lineup, but also share some new information about some of the features that will be coming to the model for 2024.

Radical Redesign Adds Sci-Fi Style To Kona

The current generation Kona had styling that was already unique to say the least, but the 2024 model doubles down on things and embarks in an even wilder direction. While the models featured are highly detailed sketches (we get to wait a bit for real photos) it seems to be an interesting mixture of old and new with the basic shape being familiar to Kona fans.

However, the front fascia gets low mounted LED headlights with the daytime running lights forming an elegant bar that wraps around the upper part of the front fascia while the rear gets wrap around taillights with pixel style motifs. This is a look that’s very similar to the Ioniq 5 and 6 and the Kona would be the latest entry to embrace this new styling language once this model formally appears in the real world.

More Tech And More Style Define 2024 Kona Interior

One of the biggest changes is reserved for the interior of the 2024 Kona which pitches much of what we know about the current model’s cabin for a look that’s also in line with its Ioniq running mates. Higher quality plastics appear to be on the menu while a pair of 12.3-inch screens are responsible for instrumentation and infotainment duties. A simplified dashboard is also coming for 2024 and it appears that the rear seating area has a flat floor which is partially due to this version of Kona being an inch wider and nearly six-inches longer than the outgoing model.

The looks here are also no coincidence either since Hyundai confirmed that the 2024 Kona is the first one that was engineered and designed to be an EV first with the ICE models being engineered after the fact. That means that the platform has an impressive amount of flexibility built into it which is helpful for engineers looking to simplify the engineering process for each different model. On that front, the Kona Electric and N-Line models will be returning to the lineup while a hybrid model will be in global rotation too. Like before, we get to wait for more information on the performance front but we think it will be worth the wait.

In the meantime, look for more information to appear in the next few months especially in regards to formal performance hardware and some of the novel features that the interior is hiding.
