We last saw the 2023 Ford Mustang at Ford’s display booth at the Woodward Dream Cruise; the company chose to generate some buzz by bringing a heavily wrapped-up prototype to the event. While we still have to wait a bit longer to see it in the flesh, Ford is choosing to take a piecemeal approach to the Mustang’s debut and has now revealed what the new Mustang sounds like ahead of the #MustangStampede in Detroit on September 14th.
Mustang Sounds Muscular In New Teaser Video
Ford’s latest teaser came courtesy of an Instagram video, but if the video is to be believed, customers will be in for a treat when the Mustang makes its global debut. The exhaust note here is from a V8-powered example, and it sounds aggressive and mean with the throbbing V8 baritone being accented by the occasional pop that emanates when the throttle is released. The end of the video gives us an auditory demonstration of an acceleration run, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and we can’t wait to see what it looks like in the flesh.
The sixteen-second clip also does little to confirm whether the V8 will receive a mild-hybrid system or not. Tightening fuel regulations are putting the squeeze on muscle cars, and the appearance of a mild-hybrid system in the V8-powered model could be Ford’s way of skirting the boundary between big brother compliance and still letting customers have all the fun and noise that they come to expect from a proper V8 powered Mustang. Buyers that don’t have the V8 budget are not going to be left out in the cold, with lower trims continuing to use the familiar 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. That said, look for some improvements to come to the engine that will not only help it be a smoother operator around town but also be more fuel efficient too.
When Will We See It?
Thankfully, the wait won’t be too long, with Ford revealing that it will be unveiling the 2023 Ford Mustang on September 14th, with the company road tripping from its global headquarters in Detroit all the way to Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan. Look for Ford to continue building up buzz prior to the car’s release with other teasers as the next few days roll by.
A prominent expectation here with this Mustang is that the styling will be a tasteful evolution over the current model. Ford designers are trying to give it a more global identity versus prior efforts that have tended to target more of its domestic heritage. That will be apparent in the front fascia and lower bumper, with the rear fascia also receiving some light tweaks to help it stand out better in the crowd. Look for the interior to also benefit from some of the recent tech infusions that we have seen in the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning, including a bigger infotainment system, as well as an updated version of the SYNC software.
