Infiniti QX60: A Luxury Pathfinder
With the release of the new Pathfinder it was all but set in stone that the 2022 QX60 would be all new as well. Both vehicles use the same platform, but has Inifniti done enough to set the QX60 apart from its sister vehicle?
2022 QX60 Exterior
While the R53 Pathfinder has sharp and boxy lines, the QX60 is smooth by comparison..
From the front we see a large open grill with additional faux brake cooling vents on the sides. The active LED headlights are very bright, slim, and slant upward as they move rearward. The hood has three hard creases. Two of these are near the outside edges and one is right down the middle. Smooth curves fill the space between the creases with a ledge on the outside edges. Having ledges this tall near the edges of the hood is a very unique feature that adds depth to the design.
Moving down the side we find 20-inch machined split 5-spoke wheels with additional black split 5-spoke sections in between the main spokes. The roof line is angled down at the rear for better aerodynamics and a sleek look. As part of this the windows are more narrow towards the rear. The shelf below the ledge on the hood continues down the side of the 2022 QX60.
From the back we see a variety of cosmetic and aero additions. Two bulges form on the rear roof taking up about ⅔ of the roofline. Angled creases on either edge add the appearance of more cooling ducts, but they are actually solid panels. Chrome colored plastic inserts in the rear bumper give the idea of quad tipped exhaust. Also present is a 2-inch receiver hitch to compliment the 6,000 pound towing capacity.
Inside the 2022 QX60
What really sets the QX60 apart from the Pathfinder is the interior. Soft leather with diamond pleating on the seats and parts of the dash exude luxury. Near the top of the seat backs is the embroidered word “Autograph” in cursive. These seats are also heated, ventilated, and massaging.
HVAC and audio controls are on a single large touch sensitive panel. When a “button” is touched the whole panel vibrates in response. It’s nice to have haptic feedback, however that feedback doesn’t necessarily come from where you touch the panel.
There is plenty of legroom for the front and middle row passengers. The 3rd row can fit adults if the 2nd row is moved slightly forward.
The cargo area is very small with all 3 rows up, but does have a large storage compartment under the floor. With the 3rd row folded there is a significant amount of cargo volume.
Up front there are two USB ports and a wireless charging pad for all your devices. The middle row also has two USB ports and a 120-volt outlet. For the 3rd row there are two USB ports as well.
Review and Drive Video
For the 2022 AWD Infiniti QX60 Autograph the base price is $63,250. Our test model was equipped with one option; Premium Paint for $695. Adding in the destination charge of $1,025 brings the total to $64,970.
This class is a little unique in being the entry luxury level. It compares to vehicles like the Lexus RXL with a top trim 450hL AWD Blackline that starts at $57,115, Grand Cherokee L with the Summit Reserve trim starting at $64,395, and the Acura MDX with the Type S Advance package starting at $72,050. These top of the line trims compare with the lower-mid level German 3-row SUVs in price.
Wrapping Up the 2022 QX60
Receiving great improvements in driving dynamics and comfort, the 2022 QX60 is significantly better than the previous generation. The 9-speed transmission is excellent and the AWD system can handle any weather. While the base price of the Autograph is a little high, it includes many items that are optional on other vehicles. Don’t overlook this vehicle because of its history, it’s greater than its previous self in every way.
