The KTM X-Bow still has a massive amount of potential: this carbon-fiber speedster layout is likely to be the next big format for track cars over the coming decades. Retiring the floppy old chassis rails of Caterhams is not an instant hit, though. It turns out some of the driving fun and pleasure may have been derived from all that flex under your bum around fast corners.
So the X-Bow (said: ‘crossbow’) has an uphill climb to win over purists. To the uninitated, the KTM X-Bow can feel too anodyne, too sure-footed and too grippy for traditional UK trackday blasts.
The entire equation must be recalculated once the X-Bow leaves Wimmer RennsportTechnik, a global leader in upgrading KTMs for road and track racing. This custom has the entire upgrade list included — but the new factory windshield option is probably the most critical for driving helmet-free in the sandy Gulf.
The ultimate, racecar grip and confidence comes into its own with a simple bump of 100-plus horsepower. Hey, who wouldn’t have more fun with an extra 100 ponies!?
The X-Bow speed revolution with Wimmer tech upgrades delivers far more than just extra ponies. Power is doubled here, with fun growing exponentially.
The lucky new owner of this car is a shy, shrinking violet of a person who never calls attention to his or her status.
The KTM X-Bow Dubai Gold Edition hopes to blow away Veyrons with its 2.97-second sprint to 62-mph — and if not by winning races, than by its blinding gold foil wrap.
Tacky, yes, but not permanent. Wraps are great for swapping colors and finishes every two years, or sooner. (But usually not much longer… wraps do not ages gracefully after about 3 years, traditionally. Sometimes, they start coming off or fade.
But whatever. This shimmery special is fun and lighthearted first for the Arabian Goldfinger of a new owner!
