New Polestar 4 SUV: The Toughest Rival to the BMW iX3, €9,260 Cheaper for the Same Range

September 19, 2026

The Polestar 4 debuts an SUV body style to add the practicality the Coupé was missing, along with a rear window. But it’s also a proposal that aims to make you forget the BMW iX3 and take on the Mercedes GLC Electric.

With up to 544 hp and 630 km WLTP range, the new electric crossover built in South Korea by Renault Korea arrives in Spain from €54,390.

Swedish Minimalism

Polestar confirms what it had already hinted at and expands the Polestar 4 range with an SUV version that coexists with the fastback Coupé body introduced three years ago. The entire front end is identical between both bodies; the change affects only 48 parts. While the Coupé begins to fall away from the roof right above the central pillars, the SUV maintains a nearly horizontal line to the boot, which frees an additional 2.5 cm of headroom for the rear seats.

Unlike the Coupé, the SUV reintroduces a conventional rear window. That allows a classic interior rearview mirror to be fitted as standard; the digital mirror, mandatory on the Coupé, is now optional. And despite being a larger-bodied model, this does not translate into a bigger boot. It grows to 530 liters (655 liters up to the roof and up to 1,665 liters with the second row folded), whereas the Coupé already offers 526 liters.

Another curiosity: the rear seats fold down only in two sections, a detail that clashes with a car nearly five meters long. Both bodystyles share the same 15-liter front trunk; the SUV adds roof rails certified to carry up to 100 kg on a wider panoramic roof than the Coupé.

Top-tier performance. The SUV inherits the SEA platform and the two powertrains from the Coupé, with a 100 kWh battery and 200 kW of charging power in both configurations. The entry variant employs a rear-mounted motor delivering 272 hp and a WLTP range of 630 km. With two motors and all-wheel drive, it reaches 544 hp for a WLTP range of 600 km, 10 km more than the Coupé.

The optional Performance package adds electronically adjustable ZF dampers, oversized Brembo brakes with gold calipers and 22-inch wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero. This option, of course, reduces the range of the Dual Motor to 520 km.

Improved digital ergonomics. The interior, instrumentation and equipment replicate those of the Coupé, but the SUV debuts updates that will probably arrive later on its brother. Among the Google-integrated apps, the Gemini assistant already works by voice command. The touchscreen supports up to nine widgets on the home screen, up from six, with more options to configure shortcuts.

Prices in Spain. The Polestar 4 SUV is now available in Spain, with deliveries planned for December for the Dual Motor, and between January and February 2027 for the Rear Motor.

The Rear Motor starts at €54,390 and the Dual Motor at €58,600. The latter, with the Performance package, climbs noticeably in price, ending at €66,900. All things being equal, the SUV costs between €4,490 and €6,200 more than the Coupé, which Polestar currently keeps on offer from €49,900, with a brand discount of €16,000 before government incentives.

Alternatives to the Polestar 4. Against German competitors, the difference is notable. The BMW iX3 40 starts at €63,650 with 320 hp, 637 km WLTP and charging up to 300 kW; Polestar records a nearly identical range with almost 50 hp less, but also costs €9,260 less.

The Audi Q6 e-tron starts at €66,370 and the Mercedes GLC Electric, with a single available version, goes up to €77,167. The toughest rival, however, is the usual one: Tesla. The Tesla Model Y Long Range, priced at €50,990, records 609 km.
