September 12, 2026

The tension between Fernando Alonso and DAZN continues. The Spanish driver has maintained for three years a hostility with the rights-holder of Formula 1 in Spain, due to his openly confrontational stance with Antonio Lobato, the race commentator. In Madrid, Alonso has taken the situation a notch further.

In a video recorded in the Aston Martin garage, one can see Alonso kicking a DAZN microphone sponge, bearing the television company’s logo. All while he jokes with Pedro de la Rosa and Melissa Jiménez, both DAZN employees, but also trusted confidants of the Asturian.

The relationship between Fernando Alonso and Antonio Lobato, and by extension with DAZN as a whole, does not seem to be improving. On the contrary, it deteriorates by the day. Alonso has spent years at odds with Lobato, but this season they have worsened even more, when the Asturian has outright stopped speaking to DAZN.

In Madrid, the tension has stepped up a notch. In a video recorded in the Aston Martin garage, and shared by the X account of ‘El Señor de los Medios’, you can see Alonso kicking a DAZN microphone. He does it in private, but the problem is that someone was filming and the moment has come to light publicly.

Alonso is in the Aston Martin garage joking with two trusted people. One, Pedro de la Rosa, Aston Martin ambassador. The other, Melissa Jiménez, his current partner and mother of his child. The problem is that De la Rosa also serves as a DAZN commentator, and Jiménez is a television reporter.

At one point in the scene, Alonso removes the DAZN logo sponge from De la Rosa’s microphone, tosses it into the air and kicks it as far as possible. Then he laughs and turns toward his companions, who go along with the joke without knowing that the moment was being filmed.

The situation also comes just as DAZN has just renewed its deal with Formula 1. The OTT platform will continue to broadcast the World Championship at least through 2030, and they have confirmed that they will keep the same team of commentators. That is, Antonio Lobato will continue as Formula 1’s commentator.

Now it remains to be seen whether Alonso’s joke with De la Rosa and Jiménez ends up having any internal consequences within DAZN, where the scene has not been well received.
