Antonio Lobato, once the journalist closest to Fernando Alonso and now the Formula 1 commentator for DAZN, is back at it. In an interview granted to Senen Morán’s YouTube channel, he asserted that Fernando Alonso is very poor at choosing teams, thereby amplifying the black legend surrounding the Asturian.
These statements come right after Alonso confronted Lobato live on DAZN, insinuating that from the Madrid studio they were unaware of what happened at the Miami Grand Prix, thousands of kilometers away. The latest demonstration that the relationship between Alonso and Lobato is finished.
“Aston Martin is the biggest failure in Formula 1”, according to Antonio Lobato
The DAZN journalist Antonio Lobato has granted a controversial interview to Senen Morán’s YouTube channel in which he left no one indifferent. And Lobato has harshly attacked Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso, hinting at the deficiencies he believes both the team and the driver possess.
For Lobato, Alonso “is very good on the track, but is very bad at deciding where to go”. He refers to Alonso constantly misjudging the teams he signs with. Not long ago, it became known that he could have gone to Mercedes, but he ultimately chose to renew with Aston Martin for 2026.
Lobato believes that “there has never been in the history of Formula 1 a disaster like Aston Martin. If we look for a precedent, we find McLaren-Honda. In both stories Fernando Alonso is present. I don’t know if it’s bad luck…”, the Spanish journalist continued. For him, Alonso is partly responsible.
The relationship between Alonso and Lobato, which was excellent years ago, has deteriorated for some time. Especially since Carlos Sainz burst onto the Formula 1 scene, and Alonso understood that Lobato had favoritism toward him. In the latest race, the Miami Grand Prix, Alonso used the DAZN microphones to send him a message.
“I never had vibrations. They said that during the broadcast. Not being here you miss a lot of information. On TV they thought it was something about the engine, but it had nothing to do with the engine. It was the tires, but from the studio it looks different,” Alonso said live, responding to a mistake Lobato had made in the broadcast booth.
Definitely, it seems that the relationship between Alonso and Lobato that gave rise to so many jokes and quips is going through its worst moment.
