Acura teases fourth generation MDX with new teaser image, will debut on October 14th

Acura has been making waves in recent years, and with the RDX and TLX appealing to young luxury buyers, the company is choosing to give its more function focused MDX some love and attention for 2021. A new teaser video released by the company shines the spotlight on some of the new design elements that will make their debut on the upcoming MDX.

Released via the company’s Youtube page, the teaser focuses on the strong character lines that help create the general shape of the RDX, We also get a glimpse of the front fascia as well as the redesigned taillights. The front fascia in particular appears to riff some key traits from the TLX including the new corporate front grille, as well as angrier looking front headlights. Acura claims that the new MDX will be lower, wider, and longer than the outgoing model. We have not seen any images of the interior as of yet, but look for the MDX to follow the form of its brand mates, with the cabin adopting some of the core design themes from both the NSX supercar, as well as other Acura models.

“We’re accelerating Acura’s commitment to Precision Crafted Performance and this fourth-generation MDX is the most ambitious and consequential redesign of an Acura core model in our history,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and Acura brand officer.

Acura also revealed that the MDX will assume “the mantle as the brand’s new flagship model,” which makes us wonder what Acura means by this particular statement. The NSX has always been the defacto flagship model for the past few years, but slow sales numbers have dogged the model since its launch, and this statement could indicate that the sleek two door is on thin ice with Acura bean counters. As for performance, Acura chose to keep that bit of information under wraps, but chances are good that a Type S model will join the lineup to help add some spice to the MDX’s driving manners.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer for its debut, with the virtual curtain being set to be removed on October 14th, we look forward to hearing more about some of the functional solutions that it intends to bring to family buyers, as well as some of the performance focused technologies that seek to make it stand out from a crowded sea of drab entries
