One cannot really escape NASCAR if you are outside of a New York-LA-Chicago type of city, and especially if you are a Yankee who wakes up one day in the South.
Stock Car racing is everywhere, and I am climbing down into the abyss.
Overall, the cars are pretty fun to watch being driven at max attack around Road Atlanta’s challenging road course. For one, it has numerous tight corners. Second, the cars in this Stock Car class include everything from Impalas and relatively recent Charger NASCARS … all the way back in time to the Chevy Monte Carolo and even the Lumina days.
As such, there was a really broad range of pace in this group – with the white 2012 Charger the clear leader.
I liked the uphill corner five best for snapping these cars as they roared past. Why? There is so little suspension travel and traction (it seems) that the inner front wheels were coming off the ground. Plus, the guys were nearly spinning their rubber once able to nail the throttle on the straight and flat tarmac before the 150-degree turn six and seven.
Pretty entertaining. Climb down, like me, and you might unearth some of the raw appeal of this wretched stereotype of a racing series as well….
