2017 Genesis GV80 SUV Concept Makes Surprise NY Debut

Genesis is engineering a fleet of SUVs to rival the best in the world.   This is our first look at their vision for a $50k midsize SUV about the size of an X5. The GV80 is mostly a design study and showcase of what is coming to the realworld.  For that purpose, its design outside … needs further study.  We can’t get a sense of its details in these preview renderings.  What is clear is that the truck has an awesome, F-Pace-ish stance and low roofline.  The bodysides show interesting firmness and strong lines.  This also shows up in …

2017 Corvette Grand Sport Makes Surprise Geneva Debut

Imagine the bulk of the monstrous, 2.9-second COrvette Z06 — but available without the supercharged engine!? The results would be very similar to this just-launched GS.  460-horsepower from the dry-sumped V8 also includes a heavenly active exhaust and seven-speed manual transmission.  You get a hang of the extra gear in a snap because the long–throw shifter is so precise and feelsome. The Grand Sport is set for a summer 2016 arrival to the US — and just a few months later to Europe! The price premium over the loaded Z51 is likely to be around $5k, or around $70k. A Z07 …

1953* Chevrolet Corvette with Bubble Hardtop – Featuring A Nasty Surprise

Replicas are tricky. That is why they work on some people: they trick the brain into a false recognition. We like this ‘Corvette’ nonetheless. You see very few first-gen Corvettes out in the real world, and none with this level of finish. Bright chrome and even a contrast-white bubble hardtop?  Lovely! But there were clues, in retrospect, that this car was a replica. The cabin cupholders and Pep Boys steering wheel, for one. Another is a total lack of badges outside. The modern rear-window weatherstripping is also a giveaway, as is the fuel door. The most damning evidence of all, now that …

2015 Kia Novo Concept Is Surprise 4-Door Coupe for Seoul Motor Show

Some impressive design coming from the latest Kia studio! This concept shows the potential look of a Forte replacement in the coming years. We love the nose best, as the profile and tail are near clones of the just-revealed Optima for 2016. But unfortunately for the production Optima, the Novo is far cleaner and more appealing. Part of what makes the Novo feel cool are its heavily rear-drive proportions and long dash-to-axle ratio in front. But there are more subtle things, too, like the fairly steep windshield angle and the way the hood’s leading edge becomes the grille below. …

4.9s 2015 Magna Steyr MILA Plus Is Surprise PHEV Concept for Geneva

The Geneva show always makes room for small exhibitors. The design boutiques, tuners and startups all find a home in this massive auto expo. One new player is not actually new at all. Magna Steyr is one of the leading OEM suppliers and manufacturing partners for Mercedes, Aston, BMW and more. The company is a huge vault of IP on how to build cars lightly, strongly and indestructibly. Evidence? The Austrian division of Magna just re-upped their contract to build the Mercedes-Benz G-Class through 2022. This new PHEV concept is a design, construction and drivetrain exercise. Powered by a three-cylinder …
