Jannarelly to Climb Pike’s Peak

Photos by Rob Overy The Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb Race has been held every year since 1916.  The 12.42-mile track has elevation grades that average 7.2 percent and takes place on a fully paved track. On average there are 130 racers in cars, trucks motorcycles and quads – and a fantastic new racer is entering the game this year – Jannarelly, the maker of hand-built sports cars with a 60s throwback feel. The manufacturer is entering the race for the first time this year with its new Design 1 which has been designated the ‘anti-hypercar’. The Competitor Jannarelly is …

2015 Acura NSX Pikes Peak Pacecar Headlines Dozen Honda Cloud-Chasers!

Honda and Acura have continued their title sponsorship of the Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 2015 with a variety of cool tech innovations on and off the 14,000-foot mountain of a racetrack. Climbing 1000 feet a minute while hitting 180-degree corners every few hundred yards is no small achievement for any car — and Pikes Peak in recent years has become true global racing highlight for many brands. Knocking seconds off the climb times is increasingly challenging and requires ultra-high-performance machinery to achieve. Peugeot nailed a track record last year, and Honda was aiming for quickest-ever glory in 2015 with its …

Concept Flashbacks – 2010 SEMA Mercedes-Benz GLK Tuner Cars

Shocked and appalled by hideous custom Mercedes-Benzes prowling the world’s roads? Wish there were an upgrade kit that fits the refined aesthetic of the Merc brand? If only Mercedes would commission a few tuner custom show cars of its own, it would have control and be able to yay/nay any questionable elements. For the US launch of the GLK in 2010, MB-USA did just that: four custom GLK’s for the SEMA show in Vegas. Unfortunately for those who do not like loud, brash designs…. what resulted are four of the wildest, silliest concept GLK’s ever seen. Removing the constraint of …

600HP MiEV Evolution III Mitsubishi Zaps Pikes Peak Clouds with 9-min, 8-sec One-Two Finish

600HP MiEV Evolution III Mitsubishi Zaps Pikes Peak Clouds Last year Mitsubishi had high hopes for the current-gen MiEV Evo to scorch the competition in the international Pikes Peak hillclimb, but left a bit disappointed. Knowing their intensive engineering focus as a company, we bet the team started to refine the car even further on the plane ride home. Enhancements began immediately and are actually remarkably comprehensive. They come down to two general areas of improvement: Mechanical changes seeking grip – increased grip more than ~60-percent with tires that went from 260-series widths all around to 330-series widths – better …

Driving Adventures – Pikes Peak and the Colorado Continental Divide

Just a few weeks from from now, Pikes Peak changes from being a year-round national park into a full-fledged racing circuit. The 19-mile hillclimb is one of the most famous rally racing events on the annual calendar. Unlike Spa-Francorchamps or Imola raceway, this circuit is right in our collective backyard. Anyone can go up the paved road year-round (weather and bravery permitting) to follow the exact route used by the prototypes from Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Peugeot for 2014.   As you climb from the starting point at barely 7000 feet above sea level, you pass through the “Alpine Zone” …

Green With Envy! 2015 Audi S1 Sportback Evokes Cut-Length Sport Quattro S1

2015 Audi S1 Sportback ]We will not see the Audi S1 here in the states for the current generation of models, but there is still something really delightful about the cars. The latest news is the reveal of a five-door version of this speedy and highly pivotal cutie. Grip in a these S1 pocket rockets is also sublime — look for the grip comparison videos versus the Nissan GT-R for evidence of how fly-paper-like the S1 can be, even versus other four-paws. The green is my new favorite car color, and something we hope to see crossing the Big Blue …
