1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham – Meet the Original 4-Door Coupe

Is this my favorite Cadillac of all time? YES! I love the Eldorado Brougham for all its quirks, but most of all for its incredible design and packaging.  Here is a fairly compact — for the era — machine with low-slung lines and width to take up an entire freeway lane.  Hidden rear suicide doors are truly invisible until you know where to look.  Then once these all open you discover a pillarless layout!  That makes it unlike nearly all other coach-door classic cars and quite special in my book. The other really coupe-like element that ties the design togehter …

F70! 2017 Ferrari 70 Anni Collection at Pebble Beach Concours [150 photos]

Ferrari made a huge splash with new cars at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours.  There were LaFerrari Apertas underfoot at almost every step.  None more special perhaps than this one-off Tailor Made model for the 70th anniversary collection. This set of specialized cars included the soft-top LaFerrari, 488 Spider and F12 Berlinetta.  Each with personalized details and F70 badges on the flanks. Sitting nearby were many of the inspiration liveries for this F70 collection.  All-stars include many Testa Rossas and a dozen significant 250’s.  Favorites include the 250 California bodystyle of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off fame and the vented, beastly …

Kiawah 2016 Highlights – 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder – Ingram Collection

An authenticity check is very helpful before falling in love with the first 550 Spyder you find out in the real world! And once you find that original, you have to drink in its details throughout.  Smoother than a porcelain lion-claw bathtub, with aircraft rivets throughout its cabin and even lightweight drilled mechanicals.  Check out that handbrake!  The holes reduced its total weight. The carved-out rear decklid is perhaps just as striking as the vehicle’s tiny size.  Between the semi-sharp rear fender-tops, the rear metal sinks deep and low to the ground.  Stunning. Kiawah 2016 Highlights – 1955 Porsche 550 …

Bell & Ross BR-X1 Skeleton Carbon Forgé Leads New Lightweight Timepiece Collection

A new dream-watch just launched!  The Bell & Ross BR-X1 is named to honor the Bell X-1 supersonic test plane from 1947 — and employs tech just as advanced for 2015 watchmaking. Four initial styles of the BR-X1 are part of a very limited-release initial collection. The favorite of ours is the Carbon Forge model — as it has a very unique marbled finish, tinted sapphire crystal, and should be much lighter than the typical BR watches. Milled from single pieces of alloy, the heft of their watches makes you feel important. But does take time to get comfortable with …

BMW Art Car Collection Celebrates 40th Anniversary With Fresh Museum Display + World Tour (125 Photos)

Who would have thought that a custom CSL in 1975 would become such a core element of the BMW legacy. 17 models so far have been made over in the BMW Art Car program, with the majority pure racecars — but not all. In fact, each car’s birth is quite a story in itself. The inspirations and visions of the artists involved are as varied as the subjects themselves. But as each car is unique, along with each artist — one core theme comes through from at least half the artists: speed whipping the paint back and up the lines …

Mecum Rogers Collection – 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III Convertible

While we are on a Lincoln Continental theme, here is the next Mark on the list!  The Mark III was dramatically larger than ever before, with a style that says late 1950s loud and clear. In this era of yearly style changes, the evolution of automotive design was in warp-drive. Imagine if every car had to be noticeably different every year today!  You would undoubtedly end up with a few weird years, more than a few odd design choices, and some down-right fugly machines. This Mark III Continental is definitely not a personal fave, as you might be able to …

Mecum Auctions Rogers Collection Preview – 1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible

The most famous Lincoln ever made? Yes, without a doubt. This four-door cabrio in red ditches most of the JFK association of the car in favor of a more light-hearted and fun take on the vaguely gothic style of its design. Arched pillars capped in chrome run the full length of the machine, which is defined by its low stance and relaxed curb-side appeal. This Lincoln is among 230 cars that are up for no-reserve auction from the Rogers collection in Las Vegas in late February 2015. We really like the Mecum Auction environment. RM Sam Pack Collection – Ford Thunderbirds – 12 Sale Results Ranked

Here is a look at the 14 Ford Thunderbirds sold by RM Auctions from the Sam Pack Collection — in descending order by price earned. Not included are any that did not meet reserve or were no-sales, and we believe there may be a duplicate 1956 or two in the list. But overall, it is a surprising barometer of desirability for the various years of Thunderbird Ford. The all-star was this bright black 1957 F-Code, which at $247,500 sold for more than triple what the next-priciest model brought home. Number two on the ranker is the baby blue 1957 E-Code …
