VinFast Doubles Down On U.S. Market With VF3 SUV and VF Wild EV Pickup Concept

When VinFast first announced plans to build the VF3 mini-SUV it wasn’t clear if the compact utility would enter the U.S. market or if it would remain an international market exclusive just out of reach of American buyers. VinFast thankfully answered our prayers by not only announcing that the VF3 was indeed coming to the U.S but that the company is also entering the EV pickup wars with the VF Wild concept.   VinFast VF3 Promises To Be The Perfect Urban Commuter At first glance, it appears the VF3 is doing an impression of the Suzuki Jimny (another international market-only …

The Korean auto brand used CES 2024 to preview two of these concepts in the flesh, the PV5 and the PV1.   PV5, The Ultimate Vehicular Swiss Army Knife While we had to wait until we were on the show floor itself to see the PV1, Kia chose to use their conference to unveil the PV5. The PV5 and the PV1 …

Ram Seeks To Revolutionize EV Pickup Market With Ram Revolution Concept, Will Shape Brand’s EV Future

Ram promised to shake up the EV truck market when it announced plans to release an EV version of its popular Ram 1500 pickup. As time went by, rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado RST, and the Rivan R1T appeared, and it became very evident that Ram was going to be running late to the figurative party. But after many teasers as well as a fair share of rumors, Ram has finally taken the veil off of the Ram Revolution Concept, which will spearhead Ram’s efforts at bringing the fight to Ford and Chevrolet.   Ram Revolution Comes …

Chrysler Debuts Synthesis Demonstrator At CES 2023, Promises It Will Be Glimpse Into Brand’s Future

Unlike sister brand Ram, Chrysler is not debuting a formal vehicle at CES 2023, but is instead using the opportunity to show what the interior of its future EV offerings will look like when they eventually make their way into production over the next few years with the Synthesis Demonstrator.   Synthesis Demonstrator Doubles Down On Screens At first glance, the Synthesis Demonstrator looks like a cross between a jet ski and a modern sitting lounge. However, look past some of the awkward angles, and it’s clear that this demonstrator is hinting at big things for Chrysler. A prominent one …

Cadillac InnerSpace Concept Previews Luxury Filled Autonomus Future

It wasn’t too long ago that roadways in the U.S. were once home to the personal luxury coupe. Having their heyday in the 70s and 80s these models packed loads of luxury into a typically sleek (there were a few design misses in those days) package that happened to have two doors and sporty driving manners. These original status symbols faded away in the 1990s, but the all-new Cadillac InnerSpace concept not only revives the idea in a spiritual way but also brings autonomous driving into the mix too.   InnerSpace Concept Is Sleek and Elegant Styling Statement A key …

The EUV version of the Bolt aims to expand the Bolt lineup and give buyers a utility focused alternative to the standard Bolt.   Bolt EUV Cruising To The Future With Super Cruise Unlike the festivities surrounding the Celestiq, the folks at Chevrolet kept the bulk of their cards closely …

Lamborghini Huracan Evo Gains Amazon Alexa Capability For 2020 [Video]

It’s not too often that Italian supercars brand Lamborghini makes an appearance at CES, but the bespoke firm used the opportunity to reveal that the Huracan will be adding Amazon‘s Alexa technology to its suite of infotainment system tricks for the new model year. Lamborghini even unveiled a brief video clip of Alexa in action, with the system having the ability to alter the color of the cabin interior lighting, change the climate control settings, open the garage door, find nearby points of interest and so much more. Alexa is slated to be an optional extra that can be equipped …

2017 BMW i Inside Future Sculpture Previews HoloActive Gesture Controls

Has BMW i just gone off the deep end entirely?  The iPerformance range in the 3 series (330e) and X5 40e is smooth and creamy — literally — on the road.  Yet the plugin hybrid electrics do drive like normal, high-speed BMWs. But my word.  Getting past the clutter of the “BMW i” language and descriptors, not to mention their designs and prices, mean these new innovations are definitely still in their infancy. Case in point? The below press release, which is virtually unintelligible.  It is so up its own a** that you have a hard time knowing the CARS …

Barra Delivers! 2017 Chevrolet BOLT EV – $30k Price and 200+ Mile Range Should Worry i3, Leaf and Prius PHEV

Disbelief?  Awe?  Wonder? Trying to find the right description to pick my jaw up off my desk. The new Chevy Bolt EV is almost surreal at its CES reveal this week.  Just a year ago, the Bolt concept wowed Detroit with its big range promises, practical shape and interesting cabin tech.  Few people — this author included — ever expected a production car to be so close on the horizon. But here it is, folks!  The massive promises from General Motors about their future electric product plans were not just hot air! The 2017 Bolt EV promises a 200-mile-plus battery range …

2017 BMW i8 Spyder Teased Via BMW i Vision Future Interaction + ConnectedRide HUD Cycle Helmets

BMW debuted a half-dozen new tech innovations at CES this year, including gesture control and mirror-less exteriors. But the real eye-catcher?  The BMW i Vision Future Interaction — a near-production 2017 BMW i8 Spyder. Sans two critical pieces, of course. Yes, the production car will have doors.  At first we thought the BMW i VFI Concept hid its doors in the side sills, a la the BMW Technik Z1 model sold in Europe briefly in the early 1990s. Alas, the lack of doors is just to give full view of the new cockpit controls and layouts.  This new user …

OP_ED: Meet the $25B Microbus – 2016 Volkswagen Budd-E – EV Van Concept Begs Sympathy for Poor, Mistreated VW

Here is the seventh Volkswagen concept trying to re-invent the microbus. The difference?  This microvan may actually be produced for limited sale in EV-heavy markets like the US west coast, Atlanta and Washington DC. Really? Not for profits, but as a knee-jerk reaction to being caught lying/cheating.  So yes, the Budd-E might make it to US showrooms in some decontented form. Perhaps as soon as 2019 for the 2020 model year.  But don’t bet on it. Typically, Volkswagen has claimed a reborn van was a non-starter because it was impossible to make its bluff original face with a front-engine layout.  (They …

2016 Faraday Future FFZERO1 Concept Throws Down Gauntlet – Now or Never, Laggards

Well, this is it!  Nearly 24 hours after the leaks began, and a full 12 since the press conference in Vegas last night, the Faraday Future concept car for CES is now in clear focus. Before you get too excited about a full reveal — with the normal specs, pricing and a production roadmap —it is best to temper expectations. This fantasy concept from Faraday Future is not headed for the road. Nor is it really headed for any race series. But racetracks? That is another story.  The quad-motor, AWD EV promises 1000+ horsepower and a 200-mph-plus top speed.  The electric motors are …

Mercedes-Benz F015 Concept Hits the Vegas Strip in 55 New Photos

Updated 1.9.15 with 55 New Photos Seeing a concept on stage and seeing it in the real world are two totally different scenarios. The F015 on the streets of Vegas drives home just how freskishly advanced and high-tech the concept looks versus today’s latest cars. Most notable in its S-Class-plus scale is the super-long wheelbase. This makes the whole machine feel even lower than its 1-inch-lower stats seem compared with today’s S550. The headlamps and illuminated star badge in white tell us that a human is driving in the photos…. PREVIOUS Here is a truly futuristic look at the …

Updated with Tech Video – Audi Prologue Hybrid Piloted Drive to Vegas

We were active haters of the Prologue concept when it was revealed for Los Angeles in late November. The low and clean style of the future A8 this car previews is growing better with time, but still seems a bit dull. The change of color to a dark grey with new five-spoke alloys are a huge improvement. They let the design breathe and feel a bit more interesting, with the lower bodywork and sill extensions coming to life in ways they didn’t in silver. The concave rear glass is still bizarre, and the nose and tail detailing still seem awkward. …

Mercedes-Benz F015 Wows CES in Vegas With Autonomous Limo Concept

Here is a truly futuristic look at the world of limousines in the mid-term future: the new Mercedes F015 concept for CES in Vegas. Wider than the S-Class but otherwise very similar in dimensions, the F015 takes a look at what luxury transport will be like within 5 to 10 years. Standard driver-operated modes have the lights outside shining white, and the front seats facing forward with the steering wheel and pedals as normal. Switch to autonomous driving mode, and the lights outside flick to blue, the steering-wheel sinks into the dash, and the four seats become a conversation …

BMW i3 Brings Driverless Valet Parking to CES 2015

These new ActiveAssist technologies demonstrated by the BMW i3 work together: 360-degree collision avoidance and self-parking via smartwatch. In predetermined environments, the i3 can now park itself and be called back to retrieve you curbside — all controlled via a smartwatch. The 360-degree smart tech is employed to protect against a crash from another car in the parking garage, or an unexpected ball rolling out in front of the car, for example. BMW i3 Brings Driverless Valet Parking to CES 2015 BMW Innovations at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. 360-degree collision avoidance and fully-automated parking in …
