911 Turbo

2.5s, 830HP 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabrio By Wimmer RST

How do you go from about 550 horsepower to well past 800?  Carefully! Wimmer RennSportTechnik has spent months developing their latest engine magic for the latest 911 Turbo S.  A wholesale revamp of the engine electronics, breathing and even mechanicals was required to have such Bugatti-like boost flowing through the H6TT motor. The results are quite shocking: the sprint pace is shockingly rapid.  Even more than the factory car, which is no slouch.  The overall vMax is stunning too: this machine can do a confirmed 226-mph!   2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabrio By Wimmer RST ONE OF A KIND …

Part of that is sharing the latest showfloor photos… en masse. =] Here are 180 images from press preview day one at the Detroit North American International Auto Show.   NAIAS 2016 – Showfloor MEGA Gallery

2017 Porsche 911 Carrera Goes TURBO! +20HP and -0.2s For New H6TT Standard Engines

This is a pretty interesting bit of news!  The standard Porsche 911 Carrera will go turbocharged from the 2017 model-year. All-new boxer six engines in 3.0-liter displacements run standard twin turbochargers. Outputs are up 20-horsepower for both Carrera and C2S models: 370 plays 420 in the Carrera S. The new engines deliver a 62-mph sprint that is down 0.2-seconds for both models. For the first time, the PDF Carrera S will scorch up to 100-kph in just 3.9-seconds. But what about the iconic sound of the 911? Will this mark another degradation in harmonics, a la the 993 –> 996 …

Concept Flashback – 2003 RINSPEED Bedouin Explores Feasibility of a Modern, Rear-Engined Porsche Off-Roader

The Rinspeed Bedoiun is interesting for a few reasons nearly 11 years since the concept’s first showing in 2003. At the time, the BMW X5 had just landed in many wealthy driveways and was instantly the biggest hit of any BMW car launch – ever. Porsche was mid-way through development of the first-gen Cayenne and RINSPEED had a few ideas of its own. “Why ditch all the greatness of the 911 in favor of a shared SUV chassis with VW?” one can imagine Rinspeed saying. Why not simply leverage the excellence of a rear-engine hero like the 911 in a …

Update1 – The Porsche Story in 99 Rare Photos – A Legacy of Victory

Porsche is ambitious to a fault. It is a core brand trait to excel in almost every single way – To the point where many thought a win at LeMans this year was almost an inevitability. Preparation, research, expertise and brilliance…. Equals: Porsche Racing. So when the 919 suffered out on the track, it was partial global surprise and partial relief. I mean, if Porsche could come in and snatch the title from Audi after 12 near-consecutive wins for Audi Motorsport — what does that really “say” about Audi? Nothing too flattering. So a bit of a relief, a bit …

Supercar Hall of Fame – 2011 Nissan GT-R in Super Silver Special Metallic

In terms of #ZeroCompetition – The GT-R’s performance really does stack up amazingly well versus almost any other hypercar. This is as true for the revised 2014 models as it is for any R35 generation GT-R – like the ~2011 model shown below. Super Silver Special Metallic might be a hard $3000 option to justify when ordering the GT-R, but the effect in real life is absolutely brilliant. Nothing short of a pure million-dollar concept has the same depth and reflectivity of this gorgeous color on the GT-R. Please enjoy these 60 all-new photos from Atlanta Motorsports Park.   2011 …

Gulf Racing Livery by CAM SHAFT for the Porsche 911 Turbo

It is automotive wrap fest today! These two are very eye-popping. They bring some favorite and iconic racing liveries to life on Porsche 911s in a very well-executed way. The funny thing about Gulf colors, in particular, is a joke I heard while visiting the GT40 factory of Superformance Olhoff Racing in April. They quipped, “We have made more Gulf GT40’s than Gulf ever did!” Thanks to the latest tech in wrapping, a two-color paintwork effect is no longer the perview of Wraith of Maybach customers. It was previously so expensive and exclusive because it meant the car had to …

2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Predictions: 4Matic AWD for 500HP Twin-Turbo V8 – Benchmarks Are 911T and GT-R

2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Predictions: 4Matic AWD for 500HP Twin-Turbo V8 – Benchmarks Are 911T and GT-R The amount of renderings of the forthcoming AMG GT supercar is staggering. Luckily, none are quite as hack-y as my aborted effort to graft the AMG Vision Gran Turismo’s nose onto the current 2014 SLS! =] What happened to the draft renders posted to facebook.com/carrevsdaily last week? They just… kept getting worse and worse in Photoshop, so I looked to external sources. The best work so far comes from Car and Driver, of all places, with a really detailed and on-target rendering of …

2014 911 Targa4 and Carrera S Featuring PDLS LED System

After yesterday’s article on all my failed LED headlight attempted, my admiration for the Panamera Turbo and Cayenne Turbo’s quad-point LED setup is very clear. Sidebar: Posting so many of my hideous DIY failures is really mortifying. But at least a break from the 600-or-so Amelia Island photos I am still sitting on?! Here is a 360-degree spin from one of the beach-walk decks in front of the Ritz-Carlton. This is a point of view panarama — versus a subject-focused turntable like many of my fly-arounds that center on an automobile. It was grey, overcast and raining that day, which …

The personalization options from TechArt  are almost limitless. There are more than 40 styles of steering wheels from which to select, for example. Most products are sold individually, but the jaw-dropping full model makeovers really show the depth of TechArt’s work outside, inside, and under the hoods of these Porsche’s. Taste is highly subjective, but be sure: these TechArt …

#ZeroCompetition True for 2014 Nissan GT-R: Bentley GT Too Big, Porsche 911 Turbo Too $$, But Lambo Huracan Gunning for R35

In terms of #ZeroCompetition – The GT-R’s performance really does stack up amazingly well versus almost any other hypercar. To have an Audi R8 that can really compete takes the V10 Plus S-tronic AWD – and a $180k price. Similar story with the Porsche 911 Turbo – which bases for around $150,000, but is easy to spec up to $180k once all is said and done. The only surprise listing? The Jaguar F-Type V8 S – which is quoted by ChromeData as delivering a cool 495-horsepower in U.S. spec. This bodes well for a 600HP R-S eventually from Jag! Amazing. …

Supercar Showcase: 2014 Audi R8 V8

If any supercar would be perfect for one of my “Fun” Car GIFs, it is the 2014 Audi R8! Some blue-sky thinking earlier: what supercar would I buy with my own money, or feel so strongly about to recommend it to a close family friend? Supercar is a broad term. Let us say: super $150,000 and available from a relatively mainstream manufacturer (with a broad dealer network), for ease of servicing. Not a 911 Turbo or GT-R, for the sake of argument. Today’s dream-car answer? The 2014 Audi R8 V8. Not the V10 or the V10 Plus. Just the humble …
