1961 Chaparral 1 Prototype – RM Sothebys Monterey 2016 Highlight

Here is a car that might be one of the most important American racers of all time.  Not for its winning record or legendary value… but simply for its rarity and inspired engineering clarity. This was Chaparral’s answer to the Shelby Cobra, but faster and lighter and far more aerodynamic. Looks like the Chaparral Prototype 1 was a no-sale in Monterey/Pebble Beach auctions this year, for unknown reasons. Perhaps just too much of an insiders-only type of machine versus the sure-to-appreciate vehicles who are able to successfully command a million plus. Check out the official RM bio of the car …

RM Monaco 2016 – 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I Works Rally

You are a rare, delicate flower.  Yes.  This is widely known. But you are nowhere near as rare — or well-preserved! — as this rally-winning Austin Healey 3000! =] RM Sotheby’s Monaco Coinciding with the Monaco Historic Grand Prix Le Sporting Monte-Carlo, Monaco 14 May 2016 http://www.rmsothebys.com/mc16/monaco/lots/ RM Monaco 2016 – 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I Works Rally

1961 Dodge POWER WAGON WM300 Pickup – An American Hero: As-New, In Box

What makes this Power Wagon special?  Few in person will need concrete reasons to love it: the pre-war curves to the roof, fenders and hood all speak to the design charm of extreme utility. The truck is an icon worldwide as one of the US Army’s main troop transports and 3/4-ton haulers. Back at home, few Power Wagons stood the test of time after less than half returned from foreign theaters of WWII. Sold off as army/navy surplus and widely adopted for farm and mining use, the Power Wagon legacy literally went to dusty rust with the introduction of salted roads and …

Gooding Amelia 2015 – 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I Lightweight Replica

Among the hundreds of fantastic cars up for sale at the 2015 Gooding & Company auction in Amelia Island this year, Jaguar E-Types were proudly represented. Most sold for pricing in the range of $150,000 to $300,000. As such, this Series I Lightweight’s estimated price of $400,000-plus was always an ambitious total, with a possibility that it would not meet its reserve price. Without crossing that threshold, the car would be a no-sale and any bids below that rate would be canceled. Finally, this Jag has one trait that collectors tend to avoid at almost all costs: replica. Despite being …

Gooding Amelia 2015 – 1961 Ferrari 250GT Series II Cabriolet Brings $2.1M

This Ferrari 250 GT is a real winner. With its factory hardtop, it can be hard to know that this is one of the most desirable second-gen Ferrari 250’s to hit the blocks recently. A series II model with the standard wheelbase, this car is a real hero and is arguably far more beautiful and balanced a design than the SWB California. How classy is this car? The hardtop even has a sunroof! Well bought. 1961 Ferrari 250GT Series II Cabriolet

Mecum Auctions Rogers Collection Preview – 1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible

The most famous Lincoln ever made? Yes, without a doubt. This four-door cabrio in red ditches most of the JFK association of the car in favor of a more light-hearted and fun take on the vaguely gothic style of its design. Arched pillars capped in chrome run the full length of the machine, which is defined by its low stance and relaxed curb-side appeal. This Lincoln is among 230 cars that are up for no-reserve auction from the Rogers collection in Las Vegas in late February 2015. We really like the Mecum Auction environment. It is less snobby than some …
