Beijing Debuts – 2017 Mazda CX-4 is New Crossover Coupe for China

Mazda has been growing their CX lineup of crossovers over the last few years and has revealed yet another new one in Beijing. Slotted in-between the CX-3 and CX-5, the CX-4 uses Mazda’s Kodo design language which incorporates a rather handsome hatchback-like design rather than a traditional SUV design. Mazda says that the CX-4 has a “sleek, coupe-like” look and their claims seem to be correct. On the inside, the CX-4 is similar to its other Mazda siblings with a touchscreen infotainment system wedged on the dashboard along with traditional analog gauges and a three-spoke steering wheel. There are two …

Road Test Review – 2016 Mazda6 – By Ken “Hawkeye” Glassman

2016 Mazda 6 i Grand Touring By Ken “Hawkeye” Glassman I always look forward to getting a Mazda dropped off in my driveway for a week’s worth of driving.  You can always count on a Mazda to deliver three things: peppy performance, great gas mileage, and outstanding handling. Our test car was the top of the line model, the Grand Touring model. As all Mazda 6 models, it comes with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder direct injection, variable valve timing engine with a very high 13:1 compression ratio and is designed to use unleaded gas.  The engine makes 184 horsepower and …

Road Test Review – 2016 Mazda CX-5 – By Tim Esterdahl

A surprise hit for many automotive journalists, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 has been called out for its “impressive efficiency, responsive handling and bold style.” Add this journalist to the list of those pleasantly surprised by the CX-5. It is really, really good. One of the first things grabbing you about the CX-5 is the exterior styling and, more specifically, the nose. The look is almost a take on a Mercedes-Benz GLE which is a big compliment to the Mazda designers. Fortunately, it doesn’t stand out as a direct knock-off and the CX-5 retains its own personality with a well-designed front …

#NYIAS: 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF – Retractable Fastback Is New GT86 Rival

RF does not stand for Really Fast.  But it could stand for Really Fun! In reality, it is the new badge for the MX-5 hardtop. This power retractable targa panel slides behind the new B-pillar uprights in back and atop the trunk. Scratch that: the entire roof actually folds under the rising uprights behind each seat.  These buttresses lift up and let the hardtop fold away.  This keeps a wind deflector in back with the top down, but does not appear to let the rear glass or roof move individually: only as a unit. It is not exactly as clean …

2016 Mazda CX-3 GT – HD First Drive Video + Photoshoot

The CX-3 looks incredible in person and drives very nicely as well. The matching LED projectors, DRLs and foglamps are a particular highlight in this compact crossover segment. The cabin, while narrow and slightly tight in back, delivers an excellent drive position and effective Eco/Normal/Sport drive modes. We have major gripes with Mazda USA at the moment, so are holding off recommending the CX-3 beyond this video brief. 2016 Mazda CX-3 GT – HD First Drive Video 2016 Mazda CX-3 GT Review

2015 Mazda RX-VISION Concept Is All-New SkyActiv-R Super GT

With a name like RX-Vision, clearly Mazda is sending strong signals about a future RX-7 flagship. This RX concept for the 2015 Tokyo Auto Show is the clearest preview yet of a future supercar in the Mazda lineup. Power is not detailed in output, only in name and philosophy. The name is SkyActiv-R, and the engine layout will be a next-gen Wankel rotary. Possible turbo and hybrid tech may be employed to suite the car’s performance goals, which are clearly aimed squarely at the new Acura NSX and future Toyota Supra Turbo, expected for 2018 with FT-1-inspired proportions. FUTURE-SPEC – Mazda MX-5 and CX-3 Platforms Reborn as Scion S-FR and Scion iD

2018 Mazda CX-7 Rendering Shows Longer, 7-Seater CX-5 Sibling

After writing up a prediction about what Mazda’s new Frankfurt concept will lead to, we decided to head into photoshop to envision a long-wheelbase CX-5. This fairly simple stretch will solve many buyer wants in a fairly affordable way: more luggage space and a third row, yet still easy on fuel and tight city streets. The rendering here is fairly basic, but gives us a good idea of how the CX-5 package will translate into a seven-seater from its current five. What is more likely than this simple stretch might be a fully new next-gen CX-5, engineered and designed …

As a small and independent manufacturer, Mazda cannot really afford to flub the design of one of its main production models. Careful design feedback was solicited on a global scale between 2005 and 2010, when the firm rolled out almost a dozen wild concept cars. As sort of a focus-group-by-fire, these concepts showed some good ideas, some bad ideas, and overall the results informed the latest generation of gorgeous Mazda6, fairly cool Mazda3 and very stylish upcoming MX-5 and CX-3. Dropping a coefficient of drag from 0.30 cD to a 0.29 cD is actually a 10X improvement in how smoothly the car can pass through the air. This change continues its exponential level of change as you approach 0.01 — so the benefits of drag reduction are quite powerful. More …

What were the two tragic ends that met the Furai concept? One: Laurens van den Acker leaves Mazda to take the top design job at Renault, where he delivered the Clio 4 and cars like the Twizy — and has imprinted his influence on ever product since 2010. The tragedy for Mazda’s NAGARE design philosophy is that it was hard to continue van den Acker’s ‘Flow’ themes without the true creator’s presence. So, despite being globally celebrated after its launch in late December 2007, the Furai was fairly doomed from the start. Designed first, and engineered second — the fantastic …

But the current car has largely missed the hot style wave of the latest Lazda6 and Mazda3. That is set to change with the just-revealed 2016 model. It is a sure thing for the US market, but its arrival timetable is not yet known. We would bet on the first few months of 2015 as a 2016 model, but it could be here as soon as this Fall. The …

Road Test Review w/ Pricing and Specs – 2014 Mazda3 Grand Touring

We were amazed with the all-new 2014 Mazda3 from the moment we laid eyes on it – especially the slinky and low-slung sedan variant that just arrived this Spring to Mazda dealers nationwide. After some joyful driving of the loaded 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring model, it is clear that the praise we shared in the “2014’s Smartest Compact” article was not sufficient. This might be the best car on the market in general, with no caveats for size or price. It is that good. I am struggling to convey how outstanding a machine it is in all regards — …

Mazda MX-5 Adds 40HP, Drops 800LB: BAUER Catfish Shell Over Flyin Miata Turbo

This is an interesting meeting of the Miata minds. Bauer Limited Production’s Catfish body overhaul for the 1990-2005 Mazda MX-5 with Flyin’ Miata’s turbocharged engine underneath. It is a recipe that delivers surprising style and divine performance, that is for sure! This Flyin’ Miata example is a bit gnarly in the headlight execution and in some tiny spots on the metallic vinyl wrap, but is still quite bewitching in the flesh. The $14,000 Bauer Catfish bodywork is a relatively simple bolt-on, bolt-off design – and also cuts 800 pounds from the cars’ curb weights. Not too shabby, especially considering the …

The Hazumi! If there were ever a cuter name that really syncs with the ZoomZoom ethos: it must be this. The Mazda3 is an amazing, incredible achievement. While preparing this article, I could not help being stunned by these tasteful, unique and attractive designs inside and out. 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SE review by Ben Lewis

3-row SUVs are hot these days. We recently tested the Kia Telluride, and the Mazda CX-90 both great vehicles. Another player we like a lot is the VW Atlas. Putting all the VW traits of fun-to-drive, good value and Euro-style together makes for a popular vehicle. And VW is smart, too. They realize there are some buyers who like the big size, but don’t really need that 3rdrow. And that frees up the designers to do something a little sportier. So, they created the Atlas Cross Sport. Well, it’s been a few years, and VW has just brought an updated …

But its amazing popularity may have shadowed another great 3-row Kia SUV, the Sorento. So, let’s pull the Sorento into the sunlight and take a look! Handsome and Rugged The Sorento has its own look apart from the Telluride, and in X-Line trim, looks just as rugged.
