2016 Nissan TITAN XD Platinum Reserve 5.6L V8 – HD Road Test Review

The Titan XD is making trouble in the full-size truck business! Like many disruptive troublemakers, though, they are doing a great service to the rest of the class.  Think of the rigid 1500 vs 2500 hierarchy of Fords and Chevys as the annoyed teacher, and buyers as the giggling classmates – in this broad metaphor. The established players in the segment are deeply invested in the half-ton, full-ton distinctions.  Beefier springs and a heavy-gauge chassis equals massive profits for the established truckmakers. Nissan has shaken things up with its all-new, ground-up redesign of the 2016 Titan XD – or Every Duty.  Its towing, hauling and gross combined vehicle weight ratings nicely split the difference between 1500-level machines and their big, tall 2500-spec brothers.  The Nissan’s new advantages are many: more capability, in a more liveable and more affordable package than its entrenched rivals. Who are the winners in this scenario?  …

Drive Review – 2016 RAM 2500 Laramie Longhorn 4×4 – By Carl Malek

A Tale Of Two Trucks – Part 2     2016 Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn   Serving as our second test vehicle, the 2016 Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn takes a different approach to luxury and in the process becomes a completely different truck. Like the 3500 Limited, the Longhorn package comes equipped with an impressive resume of standard and optional equipment, and it also came equipped with the same 6.7 liter Cummins diesel engine. But unlike the black on black color scheme that defined the dually, the interior of the Longhorn embodies the spirit of the American west, and as a result features brighter colors with our tester sporting attractive Cattle Tan leather seats and grey accents. The wood trim in our tester was also a shade brighter, and it really helped add a visual exclamation point to the beautifully crafted interior. Our favorite interior feature is the wood trim on the …

Drive Review – 2016 RAM 3500 LIMITED Cummins Dually – By Carl Malek

A Tale Of Two Trucks – Part 1 The 2016 RAM 3500 Limited & 2016 RAM 2500 Longhorn   With pickup trucks seeing a resurgence in both popularity and sales these days due to low fuel prices, many automakers are revamping their long term sales strategies to try and meet this newfound demand. FCA and their Ram brand are no exception, and are doubling down on their efforts to steal the sales crown away from both Ford and General Motors thanks to offerings such as the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel as well as recent shifts in production capacity. I wanted to find out for myself whether their lineup had the chops to take on this challenge, so I got behind the wheel of two of their heavy duty models, and put them through their paces to find out.   2016 Ram 3500 Limited Dually   Serving as the proverbial chairman of the Ram heavy …

HD Road Test Review – 2016 GMC Yukon DENALI 4WD

GMC unknowingly timed their full Yukon redesign perfectly:  as the new full-size trucks arrived in 2015, gas prices dropped to historic lows.  Rave reviews on the new trucks’ style, tech and performance propelled massive sales gains: nearly double the sales of the overall vehicle, and almost tripling the previous year’s Yukon XL sales. These are still down from their heady highs in the 70k-units-plus annual tallies that evaporated after 2008’s gas-price spike.   There is much more to the success of the Yukon Denali than external factors like gas prices., however.  This lux truck is a perfect sweet-spot between yummy mommies, cool dads, flush athletes and wealthy adventurers of all stripes. Is the magic formula still in effect for the 2016 Yukon Denali 4WD, with its standard eight-speed automatic and updated infotainment with Apple CarPlay? 1894 SILSBY Horse-Drawn Steam Fire Engine – RM Auctions Amelia Island 2016 Highlights

Motorized, steam fire engines were some of the highest-tech wagons on the roads between 1850 and the dawn of the motorcar 50 years later. The need for mechanized, high-volume water pumps to extinguish urban and industrial accidents was what drove such huge innovation at the time.  These high-tech water wagons didn’t know at the time that their steam-engine solutions would spur internal combustion.   For this machine, the steam boiler drove a turbine, which then drove a water pump. Hoses attached to the input would pull water through the system and out the main fire-fighting nozzles and ladders at high pressure and volume. The 1894 American Fire Engine Co SILSBY Steam Pumper was still pulled to the scene of the blazes by horses, but it was pressurizing the boilers all the way there.  The design similarity to a mini locomotive was no accident: the tech transfer was basically a miniaturized train engine.  But …
