Fernando Alonso will not race the Dakar 2027. The Asturian driver has denied the news published exclusively by SoyMotor, which for days has been the talk of Formula 1. In the press conference ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Alonso stated that he does not see a way to balance Formula 1 with the Dakar.
The report claimed that Alonso would race the Dakar 2027 with a Prodrive painted in Aston Martin colors, again with Marc Coma as driver, and advised by the legendary Nasser Al-Attiyah. For days the news was treated as fact. But now Alonso denies it and calls it merely a rumor.
Alonso has special plans, but he will confirm them himself
There will be no Dakar 2027 for Fernando Alonso. After days of rumors about a possible return of the Asturian to the desert, it has been Alonso himself who clarified the situation. He did so at the FIA press conference ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. Without going into detail, Alonso has ruled out the Dakar rumors.
Alonso has stated that “I’ve read the rumors; I don’t think the physical demands of the Dakar and Formula 1 are compatible. When I face the next challenge I will announce it myself, it won’t be a rumor”. Thus, Alonso dispels a story that for days had been treated as fact: a return to the Dakar seven years later.
The news, now labeled as a rumor, spoke of Alonso racing with a Prodrive, which remains the current Dakar-winning car from the Dacia era. It was said to be painted Aston Martin green and to feature Marc Coma as co-driver. It even mentioned the involvement of Sébastien Loeb and Al-Attiyah as advisors.
What is most striking is that while Alonso denied participating in the Dakar, almost simultaneously his acting team principal, Mike Krack, gave him permission to do so. Asked at Aston Martin’s press conference, Krack said, “I can’t say for certain what will happen with Fernando next year, but overall, it’s something very positive.”
Alonso says he will announce his next challenge himself. If we deem the Dakar as off, all eyes turn to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Aston Martin Valkyrie, since the event does not clash with Formula 1. But other wilder theories such as IndyCar or even Formula E have also been floated.
We only have to wait for Fernando Alonso to turn the rumors into official confirmation and confirm his plans beyond Formula 1 for 2027.
