Fernando Alonso has already made up his mind. He has put his signature on a new contract with Aston Martin that secures him to continue racing in 2027 and includes a unilateral option to renew for 2028 as well. He himself has said that he does not believe 2027 will be his last season. In other words, it seems Alonso will stay at least until he is 47 years old. Alonso will stay at least until he is 47.
The move has sparked considerable chatter among his peers on the grid. The first to comment was Argentine Franco Colapinto, one of the youngest drivers in Formula 1. In an interview with Sport, Colapinto has bet that Fernando Alonso still has many years ahead of him as a driver.
Fernando Alonso is already the oldest driver in the history of Formula 1, but he seems willing to extend his legacy indefinitely. The Spanish driver has renewed for another year with Aston Martin with an additional option, which means he will stay at least until 47 years old. And Alonso promises more to come.
Colapinto is experiencing his first full season as a Formula 1 driver, but it is not going through his best moment after provoking an accident in Baku with his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly, which took both of them out of the points. There were suspicions of a possible punishment, but ultimately Colapinto will race in Malaysia.
Regarding all the attention around his figure and the controversy with Argentine fans, Colapinto says that “there are a lot of external things and there is nothing that can prepare you for that; you only discover it as you go. They are moments, and in the end ups and downs that you experience as a driver, and you grow in every case as well. You begin to understand a bit how everything works.”
Colapinto is also confirmed by Alpine for 2027, so at least he will share the track with Fernando Alonso for another season.
