Social leasing is back for its third edition since July 16. After more than two months, a large portion of the available vehicles have already found buyers. Among the models on offer, the Opel Frontera has sparked strong demand with more than 4,000 orders. A few remain, but it’s best to act quickly if you’re eligible for the aid.
A Strong Showing for the Opel Frontera
We expected to see models like the Citroën ë-C3, ë-C3 Aircross, the Peugeot 208 and 2008, or even the Renault 5 taking the spotlight, but certainly not the Opel Frontera. Yet, the German automaker reportedly sold over 4,300 units under the 2026 social leasing program. A remarkable figure, especially since only 50,000 vehicles were planned for the scheme. The Opel Frontera could account for nearly 10% of vehicles distributed through social leasing on its own. A standout performance.
This performance is all the more striking given that Opel is not a French manufacturer and operates in France in the shadow of its Stellantis peers like Peugeot and Citroën. Even more so because the Opel Frontera is the technical cousin of the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross. Yet, it is the Frontera that is finding strong traction in the context of social leasing.
Very Attractive Rents
The starting price of the Opel Frontera under the 2026 social leasing program was 99 euros per month with no down payment for 36 months and 21,748 miles (35,000 km). At that price, it is the version with a 44 kWh battery and a 113-horsepower motor for a WLTP range of 308 km (about 191 miles). It will be a city-friendly model in daily use since its range doesn’t extend beyond that of a Citroën ë-C3 or Renault 5 E-Tech Urban; but the Opel Frontera has the advantage of interior space, measuring 4.39 meters in length (about 172.8 inches). That yields significantly more rear passenger room and a 460-liter trunk (about 16.2 cubic feet).
This 99-euro-per-month version is unfortunately no longer available to order under the social leasing program. However, you can order the “Extended Range” version with more autonomy for 139 euros per month. It is equipped with the 54 kWh battery shared with the Peugeot 2008, delivering in the Frontera a 402 km WLTP range. It still uses the 113-horsepower motor. It may not be a high-performance vehicle, but it’s a sensible daily ride, especially since fast charging is included as standard.
Thus, the rents are particularly appealing, which helps explain the Opel Frontera’s success. Opel notes that the Frontera can still be ordered within the social leasing program, subject to stock availability.
