Premium Swedish EV Brand Debuts Its New SUV in France

September 6, 2026

In Brief

Polestar, the premium Swedish electric-vehicle maker, is launching the SUV version of the Polestar 4 in France. This update brings back a rear window, improving brightness and interior usability, particularly for rear-seat occupants. The vehicle offers an extended range of up to 630 km thanks to its 100 kWh battery and is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Dimensions remain unchanged, while the cargo area grows, and pricing starts at €56,800.

The carmaker Polestar, closely tied to Volvo and known for upscale electric vehicles, continues to expand in France. After finally launching the Polestar 2 in France after a lengthy delay due to a legal dispute with a French manufacturer, the Swedish brand broadens its lineup. The Polestar 4 SUV is now arriving here, with all the essential details you need to know.

The Return of the Rear Window

The Polestar 4 SUV isn’t exactly a new-model story. We’ve known the Polestar 4 since 2023. At its launch, the model drew attention for the absence of a rear window, a bold choice that required replacing the central rear-view mirror with a camera and a monitor.

In practice, there are other cars that replace the central rear-view mirror with a camera, but rarely by removing the rear window and replacing it with a body panel. Polestar made this choice to improve the drag coefficient of its model, while differentiating itself from the competition. However, we’re not sure that this choice is wise. Removing the rear window without a mandate forcing it is hard to understand from the consumer’s point of view.

So, the new Polestar 4 SUV returns with the rear window. Polestar used the opportunity to tweak the lines of its family SUV a bit. This version, labeled SUV, features a new silhouette with a straighter roofline and a more vertical tailgate, almost in the spirit of a Scandinavian wagon.

That said, the dimensions stay the same. The Polestar 4 SUV measures 4.84 meters in length, just like the version without the rear window, while the width remains 2 meters. However, the height increases slightly by 2 cm to reach 1.53 meters.

More Welcoming Inside

With the absence of a rear window, backseat passengers could feel a bit cramped due to the lack of brightness. With the rear window back in place, that pitfall should disappear. Moreover, Polestar ships a panoramic sunroof as standard. The rear seats will then be the best place to enjoy it, as is often the case with this kind of equipment.

Passengers gain a bit of extra space inside thanks to 2 cm more headroom, which is welcome if you’re carrying adults in the rear. The trunk is also slightly larger, with 530 to 1,680 liters, compared with 526 to 1,536 liters for the version without the rear window.

Besides these improvements, Polestar does not change the cabin presentation. You’ll still find a massive 15.4-inch screen on the dashboard.

Paradoxically, range increases despite this SUV’s reintroduction of the rear window. Employing a 100 kWh battery for rear-drive 272 hp or all-wheel drive 544 hp, it delivers between 600 and 630 km of range. This is better than the 620 km offered by the Polestar 4 coupé.

On the other hand, charging capability does not improve. The maximum power remains 200 kW, with a 10–80% charge time of 30 minutes. It’s neither particularly good nor bad, simply mid-pack for this vehicle segment. It’s a pity that Polestar didn’t take the opportunity of this launch to equip the Polestar 4 with the 800-volt architecture that’s available on the Polestar 3, which would shorten charging times.

Pricing is already announced. Expect €56,800 for the Propulsion version and €64,800 for the AWD version.
