Just days before the F1 Grand Prix on the Madrid circuit of Madringg, a setback has emerged that the National Police are already investigating: the theft of hundreds of meters of cable from some electrical power generators.
The event is scheduled to take place from September 11 to 13 amid several conflicts caused by neighborhood unrest; nevertheless, the latest judicial decisions have safeguarded the celebration of the event.
Madring faces the final phase of preparation with a new setback
According to National Police sources cited by EFE, the theft of around 300 meters of cable occurred in one of the circuit’s tunnel zones near the fairgrounds, and apparently the cables were connected to generators intended to power various facilities during the GP. At present, it has not been disclosed whether there are arrests or the consequences of the theft, as the events are under investigation.
During these days, the stands and pedestrian walkways for the public are being erected and the noise barriers designed to reduce the sound, one of the main points of contention between residents and organizers.
The cable theft also comes right after a Madrid Court of First Instance denied the provisional measures requested by the Association for the Defense of the Environment and by a Sustainable Urban Planning group to suspend the Grand Prix. And although a last-minute legal stoppage is ruled out, the handling of the judicial procedure continues in the background.
