94% of electric car drivers would not go back to a gasoline or diesel car. The latest CDK Global study, a reference in dealership management software in the United States, portrays the most satisfied electric-vehicle owner measured so far. And it does so with a year-over-year rise that even surprises its own authors.
The study reveals a significant improvement in owners’ satisfaction compared with last year. 94% of respondents say they are happy with their electric car, versus 73% last year.
Only 1% would return to a gasoline car
These drivers are so happy with their purchase that the 92% have actively recommended an electric vehicle to family or friends, twenty points higher than in 2025. And the 85% say it is the best car they have ever had, with a 79% who also consider it the best they have ever driven.
The indicator that best sums up that leap is the NPS, the metric that gauges the likelihood of recommending a brand. It rises from +44 in 2025 to +77 this year, a score that in any sector would be regarded as exceptional.
The intention to repeat also grows. The 90% of owners plan to buy another electric, and that percentage rises to 94% if you exclude the baby-boom generation, the most hesitant age group. The 73% say their home will always have at least one electric, considering that the 48% also own at least one gasoline car, and only the 1% would completely return to a gasoline car.
The reasons for this success are explained by a simple one: the wallet. After all, money remains the decisive argument. The 87% say they save money with their electric, eight points more than a year ago, and maintenance costs are on average 39% cheaper compared with a gasoline car.
But not everything is perfect. 83% of owners notice a loss of range in autumn and winter, and two out of three have experienced some issue on long trips, especially when having to wait for a charger occupied by another electric vehicle to free up, something that has already happened to 44% of respondents. It is the main crack that persists, year after year, in owner experience that otherwise approaches unconditional enthusiasm.
