Madrid’s Southwest Expressway Takes Shape, Promising Easier Commutes for 100,000 Drivers

July 14, 2026

The Community of Madrid has put forward a new project aimed at improving mobility: the Madrid Southwest Motorway. With a planned length of over 41 kilometers, it will connect the M-503 and M-407 roads and will strengthen communications between the west and the south, “facilitating” the connection to major corridors such as the A-5, the A-6, and the A-4.

In recent days we have learned news about this project.

A project intended to make life easier for 100,000 drivers

According to the Madrid Community itself, the Governing Council has learned of the bid to award the contract for drafting the technical viability study of the future Madrid Southwest Motorway, a new step in the processing of this infrastructure.

This route has been conceived to improve mobility for more than 100,000 residents of the region, including those in Valdemorillo, Villanueva de la Cañada, Brunete, Sevilla la Nueva, Navalcarnero, El Álamo, Batres, Serranillos del Valle and Griñón. It will begin at the connection of the M-600 with the M-503, the southern link of Valdemorillo, and its end at the junction of the M-404 and the M-407, near the center of Griñón.

It is estimated that the road will experience an average daily traffic of between 10,000 and 17,000 vehicles, depending on the segment. To this project is added the “super ring” that is also intended to be built to relieve the congestion on the M-40 and the M-50: the M-70. But it is a complex project that is still in an embryonic stage.
