Fernando Alonso is known as one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, but off the tracks he also has his petrolhead side. You only have to look at the collection of supercars he’s assembling, and as a road driver he also has his favorite accessories and others he can’t even stand.
The low-cost telecommunications operator Finetwork, one of Alonso’s main sponsors, has subjected the Asturian driver to a small game about his favorite objects to use in a street car. Alonso was quite clear about which one he discarded first: LED lights.
Yes, Fernando Alonso is also dazzled by your LED lights
It’s not your imagination: there are more LED headlights on the road than ever. Car lights dazzle more and more, and they are behind more incidents. It’s not just happening to us ordinary drivers on foot. Even Fernando Alonso is dazzled by LED lights on the road. So it’s the last thing he would put on his car.
We learned this thanks to a game Finetwork put Alonso through to promote its new internet offers. The two-time Formula 1 world champion had to choose the objects he liked most and least to put in his car among those offered by the company, and the first discard was very clear.
Alonso argues that “LED lights distract the car behind, so it will be cheap… to regulate.” The Asturian preferred to keep a ‘Baby on Board’ sign, which he will now have to use more than ever given his recent fatherhood. “LEDs distract the driver behind”, he concluded before discarding them.
LED lights have become a talking point on the roads, becoming standard in almost all new models. They offer advantages such as maintenance savings, since they almost never fail. The problem is that more and more drivers complain that they are dazzled by these headlights on the roads.
Additionally, Alonso discarded other more anecdotal gadgets, such as the classic wooden ball seat typical of taxi drivers, which the Asturian driver considers “is a bit old-fashioned now. With the technology that we have in Formula 1, we would never put it on.” He also didn’t care much for a mini portable battery attached to the air conditioning duct.
@finetwork We would have given that little hand a chance ✋@fernandoalonso New chapters every Tuesday and Thursday 🔥. #MundialBaratoBien #Alonso #Finetwork ♬ original sound – Finetwork
In short, even Fernando Alonso has joined the long list of drivers who complain about the glare caused by LED lights on the road.
