The market share of hybrid and pure electric cars continues to rise in Spain, although mild-hybrids still take the largest slice of the pie. From January to March, 30,700 electric cars were sold, up 40% from the same period in 2025, and the expansion of charging points has followed suit.
The first quarter of 2026 recorded 2,005 new charging points, bringing the total to 55,077 in Spain, according to the latest barometer from the employers’ association Anfac. Provincially, 18 provinces are expected to have reached or surpassed their installed-power targets for 2026, while 12 are below 50%.
“Currently, one out of every four installed charging points is not operational”
The publicly accessible charging infrastructure in Spain continues its evolution, and during the first quarter of 2026 it grew by 3.8%, which represents an increase of 2,005 new points. This growth demonstrates progress in Spain’s charging infrastructure, but far from the quarterly advance average of the last two years.
Of the 2,005 new points available in this period, 15% are very high power (starting at 250 kW): they rose by 309 units in the first quarter of 2026, which accounts for 43% of the charging points in this power range installed during 2025.
This increase, Anfac notes, could be even larger if the 17,073 charging points installed but not operational for various reasons were activated. If they were active, Spain’s charging network would rise to 72,150 public-access chargers.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s fast-charging network continues to expand, and in Spain it already counts 100 Supercharger stations, averaging 16 per station.
