When some automakers seize the switch to electrification to wipe the slate clean and launch all-new models, Range Rover chooses a different path.
The Range Rover Sport Electric Will Go Largely Under the Radar
Following the full-size Range Rover unveiled a few weeks ago, today it’s the Range Rover Sport’s turn to receive a 100% electric variant. But apart from a few details, the newcomer bears a striking resemblance to its gasoline, and plug-in hybrid siblings. The British brand didn’t want to upend a look and styling that customers highly value, and focused first on the technical side. Because beneath the hood and the floor lies a lot of change! The Range Rover Sport Electric sits on an evolution of the MLA-Flex platform and adopts an 800-volt electrical architecture, which will greatly simplify rapid recharging. Its battery capacity is an impressive 118.5 kWh, a logical choice given the vehicle’s size and weight. With this, the brand cites up to 609 km of range on the WLTP cycle, and roughly 535 km in real-world conditions. More importantly, it can handle up to 350 kW DC charge power, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes under optimal conditions. Ten minutes are enough to recover up to about 220 km of range, the length of a coffee break or a quick highway pit stop.
Still a True “Range” for Off-Road Capability
On the performance front, two electric motors power all-wheel drive and deliver 550 hp combined with 850 Nm of torque. With the Dynamic Launch mode (Land Rover’s take on Launch Control), the 0 to 60 mph sprint clocks in at 4.5 seconds. Electrification also let the brand rethink the chassis. Compared with the plug‑in hybrid Range Rover Sport, the structure is reportedly 61% stiffer and the center of gravity lowered by 73 mm. These changes tame body roll and improve stability, while also boosting aerodynamics and, consequently, efficiency. It retains the brand’s self-leveling air suspension, active anti-roll control, and four-wheel steering. And of course, like any “Range Rover,” it remains capable off-road: it can ford up to 90 cm of water and negotiate roughly 45-degree slopes. It will be offered in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition trims. Orders are already open in some markets, with a launch planned for the first quarter of 2027. U.S. pricing hasn’t been announced at the time of writing, but don’t expect the entry price to dip below $100,000—even before options.
