Honda Prelude to Launch a Special Edition in Europe

September 29, 2026

A two-door hybrid coupe at the height of the electric SUV boom. On paper, the recipe looked like a risky bet. Since its return to the lineup in Japan, the new Honda Prelude has nonetheless found its audience. To the point that the manufacturer already confirms a special series for Europe. With a footprint that includes a more exclusive look and a price tag that won’t be easy.

This version, dubbed Honda Prelude Limited Edition 2027, was first unveiled for the Japanese market. It marks the first anniversary of the hybrid coupe’s career. There, Honda speaks of an “overwhelming response” from customers for this special edition. Enough to convince the brand to offer it in Europe as well starting in the fall, as a 2027 model year. It remains to be seen what this edition will concretely bring to European enthusiasts beyond the badge on the trunk.

A Honda Prelude Limited Edition Born in Japan, Already Headed for Europe

In Japan, the sixth generation Prelude was launched in September 2025. It arrives as a hybrid e:HEV coupe derived from the Civic. On June 18, 2026, Honda unveiled the 2027 Limited Edition on its domestic market. First deliveries are scheduled to begin August 20. The stated objective is clear: to sustain interest in this niche coupe with a more upscale presentation. And, now, to capitalize on that image by exporting it to Europe.

Honda still does not release how many units are planned for this Limited Edition, whether in Japan or Europe. What is known, however, is that it will be offered on the Old Continent in the fall of 2026, badge-year 2027. The model will therefore remain a niche offering, positioned above the standard Prelude. The latter is already priced at €49,500 in Germany, where the VAT is 19%. By comparison, American customers shell out $43,695, about €40,000, for the same drivetrain.

Color, Ambience and Tech: What the Honda Prelude Limited Edition Changes

To stand out, the Honda Prelude Limited Edition first leans on its appearance. It adopts an exclusive color, Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic, a deep red. This is paired with discreet red accents on the bumpers. Behind the black 19-inch wheels lie red Brembo brake calipers. They are larger than those on a standard Civic. Inside, the mood shifts to Bordeaux, with a darker Bordeaux interior theme. Specific floor mats appear. Red stitching outfits the steering wheel, the central console, the dashboard, the seats, and the door panels. The Prelude logo is even embroidered on the dashboard. Honda explains that it gives each car the feeling of being “hand-signed.”

Technically, this special edition doesn’t change anything under the hood compared to a standard Prelude. The coupe retains its e:HEV hybrid powertrain, with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine paired with electric motors. It also inherits the S+ Shift function that simulates an eight-speed automatic. It offers downshifts with light throttle blips and gear-holding. By contrast, the Prelude benefits already from several elements borrowed from the Civic Type R. We find electronically adjustable dampers, widened front and rear tracks, and a dual-pinion electric steering. Not to mention those larger Brembo brakes. In Japan, this Limited Edition is priced at 6,306,300 yen, roughly $40,000 or €35,300. It sits barely above a standard Prelude on its home market. In Europe, Honda has not yet disclosed the premium for this special edition. The brand has ruled out a Type R version, a cheaper entry trim, or even a manual transmission. In other words, this Prelude Limited Edition bets on its exclusive aesthetics to win over European buyers willing to pay the price.
