Alpine is gearing up for a pivotal turn in its lineup: electrifying its iconic berlinette. The third generation of the A110 will be 100% electric, packing advanced tech to keep the driving character as nimble as the current gasoline model. While the car remains highly anticipated, Alpine has offered a glimpse of the styling for the next electric berlinette.
Just a Veil at the Paris Auto Show
The public and the media were hoping to see the A110 electric at the Paris Auto Show, or at least a show car, but Alpine will be on site with a piece of art meant to reveal the bodywork beneath a veil. This sculpture conveys the impression of a body cloaked in a veil, inviting several possible interpretations of the next A110’s styling.
This electric version still appears low and compact. Compared with the production version, don’t be surprised if the car grows slightly due to technical constraints, notably the battery, which has to sit in the chassis behind the passengers as well as up front. It’s noticeable that Alpine seems to have reinterpreted the front fog lights, keeping the signature four-light look. The body lines appear taut, with a low hood, a raked windshield, and fairly muscular fenders.
A Technical Challenge for Alpine
According to Alpine, the A110 will be instantly recognizable thanks to the APP platform, 100% aluminum used for this model. To preserve a low-slung driving position, good weight distribution and a low center of gravity, Alpine plans to split the battery into two—part behind the rear passengers and another portion in front of the cabin.
The proportions of the berlinette will still be recognizable, even though the car has been widened to accommodate wider running gear brought on by the new electric powertrain. The architecture is conceived as a propulsion platform, but a front-mounted motor can be added as needed on the APP platform. One can imagine a four-wheel-drive version of Alpine’s berlinette.
