This Premium SUV: 50,000 Units Produced to Date

September 21, 2026

BMW, the German automaker, is riding a wave of demand for its electric SUV lineup. The BMW iX3, the first vehicle of the brand’s new generation of electric models, is posting strong early sales. The premium SUV has already logged production of 50,000 units. The outlook is upbeat for BMW, which is on track to reach 100,000 orders soon.

Production accelerates in response to solid demand

In just a few months, BMW has produced more than 50,000 units of its electric BMW iX3 SUV. The Debrecen plant is already running at full tilt, a notable achievement for a completely new factory.

BMW had initially planned a gradual ramp-up of the production rate for its new Debrecen plant. A second production shift was quickly added in February 2026, well ahead of the original schedule BMW had set. This move allowed BMW to speed up iX3 production. In this momentum, BMW could quickly reach the 100,000-order milestone.

The industrial success of the iX3 is especially meaningful because it marks a new milestone for BMW, a step that will guide the automaker’s future electric lineup.

The BMW iX3 inaugurates the Neue Klasse

Thus, the iX3 is the first model to sit on the new Neue Klasse platform. This model is of pivotal importance for BMW as it lays the groundwork for the brand’s electric range going forward. BMW prioritized efficiency for this electric model, with aerodynamic refinements and optimized electrical management. The iX3 50 xDrive variant features two motors for all-wheel drive, with the front motor able to disconnect to save energy.

But most notably, the 108.7 kWh battery enables an estimated range of 800 km on a single charge (roughly 497 miles). The 800-volt architecture supports very fast charging. The model has everything required to achieve significant success. This explains the 50,000 units already produced at Debrecen. The Debrecen plant achieved the fastest ramp-up ever recorded for a new BMW facility. This success testifies to both the plant’s performance and the strong customer interest in the BMW iX3.
