ABT is best known for its powerful tunings on Volkswagen and Audi models. But the German tuner has just turned its attention to two vehicles you might not immediately associate with sportiness: the Multivan and the California. Both Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles models adopt a markedly more aggressive look.
ABT has long worked with the Volkswagen Group and has already taken an interest in many models, from the Golf to SUVs and even electric vehicles. This time, the German specialist shifts gears somewhat with the Multivan and the California, two vehicles more designed for carrying a family or going on vacation than for chasing performance.
A Much More Sporty Look
This new package is developed in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It will be available to order directly when purchasing a new vehicle starting in fall 2026, but can also be installed later on a Multivan or a California that has already been delivered.
ABT’s work primarily focuses on style. The Multivan and the California receive a bespoke aerodynamics kit with several redesigned elements. At the front, the bumper gains a new spoiler as well as additional air intakes. The side skirts feature a gloss black finish and a dedicated rear diffuser is added at the rear.
The tuner also adds its own 20-inch wheels. They give the two models more character while filling out the wheel wells more effectively. To go even further, an optional lowering kit is offered. It reduces the ride height by 30 mm and gives a more dynamic silhouette to both the Multivan and the California.
The result is quite surprising for a vehicle like the California. The latter obviously retains its camper-van vocation, but adopts a much sportier presentation. Volkswagen currently offers the California with several powertrains, including a diesel, a petrol, and a plug-in hybrid depending on the version. However, the California is likely to lose a bit of practicality as it won’t be as comfortable on rough trails to reach a bivouac site.
A Tuning Package That Goes Beyond Looks
ABT does not intend to stop at appearances. The tuner also announces an ABT Power option designed to increase engine performance. The exact specifications of this setup have not yet been disclosed for the new Multivan and California.
This possibility aligns with ABT’s usual philosophy, which offers mechanical enhancements to complement its aesthetic modifications. Customers will therefore be able to tailor their vehicle with the body kit, wheels, and lowering, before potentially going further with engine tuning.
Another distinctive aspect of this collaboration: ABT parts can be integrated directly into the configuration of a new vehicle with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. They can also be added after purchase through ABT.
Thus, the tuner transforms a family or leisure vehicle into a much more demonstrative model, without abandoning its primary vocation. An original way to add a touch of sportiness to two vehicles that weren’t necessarily the first ones you’d think of for an ABT makeover.
