An American luxury electric-vehicle brand is coming to France. These two models were once direct rivals of the Tesla Model S and Model Y before their exit from the lineup. Meet Lucid, the manufacturer aiming to build powerful electric cars, fast charging capabilities, long ranges, and a stylish appearance.
An Arrival at the Paris Auto Show
Lucid will make its official debut in France at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in October. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the Lucid Air, their high-performance electric sedan with an exceptionally long range of up to 960 km WLTP, plus the Gravity SUV, which already offers 731 km of range.
You may have already spotted Lucids in France or elsewhere in Europe. The brand is already present in several European countries, including Belgium, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. For instance, I’ve seen two Lucid Airs parked at public chargers in Paris, registered in the Netherlands.
But Lucid is now preparing its formal entry into France. The company is partnering with Emil Frey France to establish its vehicle-distribution arm, while Lucid will maintain control of the customer experience. It’s a smart approach to establish a foothold quickly without compromising the brand’s premium image.
Pricing to Be Revealed
Prices for the two Lucid models—the Air sedan and the Gravity SUV—haven’t been announced yet for France. In Belgium, the Lucid Air starts at €88,900 and can exceed €130,000 for the versions with the best range. Those prices are expected to be similar in France. As for the Gravity, entry pricing is anticipated to exceed €100,000.
Lucid also plans to roll out a more compact SUV in 2027, tailored to European consumer expectations. Indeed, while Lucid’s cars are compelling, they remain more suited to the American market, which typically favors larger vehicles and broader automotive standards than those common in Europe.
