In China, some electric SUVs are already touting a battery life of one million kilometers. This is the case with the new 85 kWh LFP “Aegis Golden Brick” pack. Zeekr is preparing to offer it on its flagship 7X next year, for the 2027 model year. The pack is expected to reach the Chinese market first in the fourth quarter of 2026. A seemingly subtle evolution in appearance, yet it targets the heart of the spec sheet, crafted to narrow the gap between entry-level models and the long-range versions already on offer.
What the 85 kWh battery changes for the Zeekr 7X
The Zeekr 7X today offers two battery options. The base version uses an LFP “Golden Brick” pack of 75 kWh. It powers a rear-mounted 496 hp motor. This configuration lists about 620 km of range on the CLTC cycle (480 miles WLTP) and a nominal voltage of 618 V. Zeekr also claims a 10 to 80% charge time of 13 minutes.
Above it, a 100 kWh NMC battery pushes the range to 802 km CLTC (615 miles WLTP). It can go from 10 to 80% in 16 minutes. It relies on a high-voltage architecture near 900 V to enable rapid charging.
The new 85 kWh LFP pack is expected to slot in between these two configurations, likely replacing the 75 kWh version. This pack of 85 kWh adopts the LFP “Aegis Golden Brick” technology developed by Geely. It uses short-format, blade-style cells laid flat in the floor. Zeekr highlights a claimed lifespan of 1,000,000 kilometers and 3,500 charging cycles. The “Golden Brick” batteries are also presented as being highly insulated against the risk of thermal runaway.
For now, the brand has not released official range or charging-time figures for this new capacity. The available data suggest more than 700 km CLTC range (about 435 miles). That would place the 7X close to the Li Auto i6, which is listed at 720 km CLTC (about 447 miles). The Li Auto i6 uses an 87.3 kWh pack.
Chinese lineup and the European question
On its domestic market, the 7X remains a large SUV measuring 4,825 mm in length (about 190 inches or 15.8 feet). It is 1,930 mm wide (~76 inches or 6.3 feet) and 1,666 mm tall (~66 inches or 5.5 feet), with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm (about 115 inches or 9.6 feet). In China, two drive options are offered. To accompany the arrival of the 2027 model year, slated for the fourth quarter of 2026, Zeekr also announces a promotional period. Some options will then be offered as a “free purchase.” This pack bundles an electronically adjustable rear seat and an integrated refrigerator. It also adds 20-inch multi-spoke wheels.
Outside of China, the 7X adopts slightly different specifications. The global version measures 4,787 mm in length (about 188.6 inches or 15.7 feet), 1,930 mm wide (about 76 inches), and 1,650 mm tall (about 65 inches). Its wheelbase reaches 2,900 mm (roughly 114 inches or 9.5 feet). Zeekr already reports more than 200,000 orders for its SUV, distributed across more than 50 markets. In Europe, the lineup currently centers around two main batteries:
- Batterie LFP de 75 kWh with a rear-wheel-drive motor of 416 hp and an autonomy of 480 km WLTP (about 298 miles).
- Batterie NMC de 100 kWh, available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Autonomy advertised up to 615 km WLTP (about 382 miles) and a maximum output of 637 hp.
For now, the 85 kWh battery is announced only for China. No specifics are given about a possible Europe-wide expansion, nor about the WLTP range that would result from such a variant.
