Spanish EV Market Sets June Record: Top-Selling Models for 2026

The electric car remains not a car for everyone, but never before have so many electric passenger cars been sold as in this June 2026. The electric car thus marks its best month in Spain’s history. According to data published by ANFAC, Faconauto and Ganvam, 15,942 pure electric vehicles were registered, up 23.3% compared with June 2025.

The share of this propulsion type rises to 10.5% of the market, 1.3 percentage points above the figure recorded a year earlier. The data confirm that electric vehicles are growing far faster than the overall market, which in June advanced 7.8% to 128,426 units. In fact, electricity keeps doubling that pace month after month since the start of 2026.

More electric than ever, and more Chinese than ever

In the six-month cumulative total, registrations of pure electric cars reach 71,086 units, up 35.4% from the same period in 2025. This figure already represents 9.23% of the total passenger car market year-to-date.

This June was marked by the push from Tesla, the unstoppable growth of BYD, and an increasingly fierce competition among European, Korean and Chinese brands.

The leadership belonged to the Tesla Model 3, which, with 2,000 units sold, far surpassed the rest. It was followed by the Tesla Model Y, with 780 registrations. One might think that Elon Musk’s reduced media exposure in Donald Trump’s policies is paying off and that people have forgotten his worldview reminiscent of a certain painter of Austrian origin, but no.

And it’s not only in Spain. Tesla’s sales in Europe surged by 77% between January and May year-on-year, driven mainly by aggressive 0% financing strategies and very affordable entry versions. Many European buyers are increasingly prioritizing practical factors such as the range of their cars and the extensive Supercharger network over their personal opinions about the brand’s CEO, Elon Musk.

The third place in sales in Spain went to the Kia EV3, with 568 units, while the newly launched CUPRA Raval stood in fourth with 527 units. The BYD Seal occupied fifth place with 498 units. Close behind were the Leapmotor B10 and the BYD Dolphin Surf, both with 479 units. The top 10 closed with the Toyota C-HR+ (454), the Changan Deepal S05 (390) and the BYD Atto 2 (375).

By brands, Tesla dominated with 2,785 registrations and an 18.93% share within the electric segment, followed closely by BYD, with 1,973 units and a 13.41% share. Kia completed the podium with 1,095 cars sold.

Year to date, the Tesla Model 3 maintains the lead with 5,763 units, followed by the Tesla Model Y with 3,509. The BYD Dolphin Surf completes the podium with 2,942 registrations. The top 10 year to date is closed by the Kia EV3 (2,412), the Toyota C-HR+ (2,382), the BYD Atto 2 (1.893), the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric (1.803), the Changan Deepal S05 (1.603), the Citroën ë-C3 (1.541) and the Skoda Elroq (1.337).

Although in the June Top 10 European brands are barely visible, that is not the case in the year-to-date, with Renault, Citroën and Skoda present. Still, the segment remains dominated by Tesla and Asian brands. And beyond BYD, it is worth highlighting especially the sales of Changan, which, despite its media discreteness and recent market entry, has already crept into the ninth position in year-to-date sales.

In any case, the most relevant data this June was not only the volume, but the consolidation of a double-digit market share. On June 30, the last day of the month, 2,154 electric cars were registered, the best daily record of the period. Despite the progress, the Spanish market remains behind other European countries in electric-vehicle penetration.

The growth of Chinese brands continues to be one of the most notable aspects. BYD, with eleven models in its range, no longer competes only in volume, but in the diversity of offerings. The Koreans, led by Kia, and European manufacturers such as Cupra or Toyota also gained weight in an increasingly competitive ranking.

Why are so many electric cars being sold in Spain now? There isn’t a single reason, but everything adds up. The low-emission zones in major cities continue to push the replacement of the fleet, while the exemption from vehicle registration tax for Zero Emission label cars remains a strong commercial argument. 

To that, discounts offered by manufacturers and dealers are added, partly anticipating public subsidies, at a moment when the Auto+ Plan has not yet opened its administrative window. 

With these data on the table, pure electric is shaping up as the technology that is accelerating the most within the Spanish market, ahead of PHEV in absolute volume and only behind conventional hybrids, which remain the majority option with 38.9% of June sales. If the current pace continues, the share of electric vehicles could exceed 10% in the annual total before the end of 2026, something that had never happened before in the Spanish passenger car market.

It remains to be seen whether the second half confirms this acceleration, since the comparison becomes more challenging from July against a second half of 2025 that was already growing strongly. Even so, with 71,086 electric registrations in six months, Spain is on track to surpass 140,000 units over the year, a figure that just two years ago seemed unattainable for pure electric alone.
