BMW Kept an Ace Up Its Sleeve for Its New i3 — Now We Know the Price of the Market’s Longest-Range Electric Car

July 3, 2026

The new BMW i3 has already revealed its look and technology a few weeks ago. Now BMW unveils part of its prices with the start of reservations for the First Edition version, while the rest of the finishes and variants in the catalog won’t arrive until autumn.

BMW has opted for prudence. The first model to debut the brand’s new 800-volt electric platform has been the iX3, not a sedan. It makes sense, as SUVs continue to drive sales across almost all manufacturers, regardless of size.

Nevertheless, the Bavarian brand had already announced that this new generation of electric vehicles would also arrive in a sedan body, alongside the Neue Klasse concept.

And it is precisely this i3 that will hold, at least for a while, the WLTP-certified range record: 906 kilometers, thanks to an impressive usable battery of 108.7 kWh. That’s about 100 km more than the BMW iX3 xDrive50 equipped with the same battery and drivetrain.

Such a figure has a price, and it is far from affordable, as evidenced by the price tag of the 50 xDrive First Edition variant. A limited-run launch edition that can already be reserved before the rest of the finishes arrive in the catalog, presumably in autumn. The starting price of the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition is €74,650.

Almost €75,000 is what a BMW i4 eDrive40 with the M Sport Pro package costs today, a model with less range and inferior performance (“only” 340 hp).

In addition, you must consider the standard equipment of this new i3 50 xDrive, and the financing, which has become a commercial weapon for BMW thanks to very tight monthly payments, from €495 per month with the brand’s traditional financing

Beyond its strong performance (0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, 469 hp and 645 Nm distributed between the two electric motors that make up the AWD system) and an 800V architecture with charging power of up to 400 kW that allows reclaiming 400 km in 10 minutes, the i3 50 xDrive First Edition arrives packed with equipment.

The electrically adjustable multi-function seats, Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, 22 kW AC charger, bidirectional V2H (vehicle to home) charging, automatic 2-zone climate control with heat pump and battery preconditioning, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, integrated Alexa, compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging for smartphones, and a 3D Head-Up Display projected onto the Panoramic Vision (the instrument cluster at the base of the windshield) all join an already very generous equipment list.
