Zeekr Arrives in Spain: Geely’s Premium EV Brand, Founded Five Years Ago, Now Beats European EVs

The arrival of Chinese brands in the European and Spanish market is relentless. Almost at the pace of one new arrival per week, the speed at which many of them are implementing their presence is remarkable. This week it has been Zeekr, a premium-positioned brand of the Geely Group, which has staged its debut in Spain. We share all the details about its plans and also some first impressions behind the wheel of its initial cars. 

¿Quién es Zeekr?

The name isn’t easy to pronounce in Spanish, but in short, Zeekr is one of the brands within the Geely Group, owners of others such as Volvo, Polestar, Lotus or Geely itself, which is also entering Spain as we’ve already mentioned. 

Specifically, Zeekr is a brand in the upper segment, and they describe themselves as Premium despite being only 5 years old, since the brand’s origin dates back to 2021. In Spain it arrives through an importer with experience with other Chinese brands, such as Salvador Caetano Auto, as they distribute others like Dongfeng, Xpeng or Voyah. They are a giant with a presence on three continents, more than 9,000 employees, and a turnover exceeding €5 billion in the past year. 

Returning to the brand, Zeekr was born just five years ago “with the aim of redefining the concept of premium electric mobility through a combination of advanced technology, European design and a fully connected user experience.” Its design headquarters are in Gothenburg (Sweden), and from there these cars—now familiar on the streets of China—are designed. 

Although Zeekr is the youngest brand in the Geely Group, it already has some experience in Europe, as it began its operations here in 2024. This year, 2026, they start in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Globally they have accumulated sales of over 640,000 units to date.

In our country Zeekr will begin with four showrooms, located in the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga and Valencia, and in strategic areas for the deployment of electric vehicles they plan to open more points in Alicante, Seville, Bilbao, San Sebastián or Valladolid. Later their objective is to open new centers in cities with commercial potential such as Palma de Mallorca, Zaragoza, A Coruña or Granada.

Cuatro modelos Premium y eléctricos

Zeekr arrives in our market with a lineup initially consisting of four models: 001, X,  7X and  7GT. All of them are developed on a single modular platform, the so-called SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture). It is a next-generation electric architecture specifically designed for premium electric vehicles. 

What stands out about the platform is that it can integrate 400V or 800V systems with different battery configurations, traction setups and performance depending on the model type. 

• Zeekr 001: an electric shooting-brake sedan with a minimalist design, advanced technology and grand-tourer performance. It uses a 400V architecture, homologates up to 620 kilometers WLTP range and can reach up to 400 kW (544 hp) in its all-wheel-drive version, enabling 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. 

• Zeekr X: is a premium compact SUV designed for urban use, aimed at customers who value sophisticated design, technology and versatility in a more compact footprint. It incorporates the Golden Battery developed in-house by Zeekr. Available in Core RWD, Long Range RWD and Privilege AWD, the Zeekr X offers up to 365 kW (496 hp) of power, with 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and fast charging up to 230 kW, allowing from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes in the Long Range RWD version and up to 415 km of range in the Privilege AWD version. 

• Zeekr 7X: a premium generation electric SUV developed by the brand for the global market, designed to combine space, advanced technology and comfort over long journeys. Built on an 800V architecture, the 7X supports charging up to 480 kW, allowing 10 to 80% charging in as little as 13 minutes on some versions. Available in Core RWD, Long Range RWD, and Privilege AWD configurations, with ranges up to 615 kilometers WLTP and power up to 475 kW (646 hp).

• Zeekr 7GT: the brand’s new electric grand tourer, specifically developed for Europe. Conceived to deliver an emotional and precise driving experience, the 7GT integrates an 800V architecture, ultrafast charging up to 480 kW and 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds in its Privilege AWD version, with 475 kW (646 hp) of power. Available with 75 kWh and 100 kWh batteries and WLTP ranges up to 655 kilometers, the model combines high performance, everyday practicality and comfort and connectivity oriented solutions within a clearly premium electric grand touring proposal.

During the launch of the Zeekr brand in our country, we had the chance for a brief hands-on session of about 25 minutes with some of the models that comprise its initial lineup. As the route and test time did not allow for a proper test, we’ll leave that for a future occasion when we can have the cars for several days and analyze them in more detail. 

What I can share are some of the first impressions the cars conveyed. The first one I drove was the 001, a shooting brake sedan that has a strong, bold road presence. The unit we tested also included the Sport Edition package, which added features such as 22-inch wheels with a multi-spoke design, orange-painted six-piston brake calipers, a carbon fiber rear spoiler on the trunk lid, and many other carbon details. 

Inside, orange accents appeared on the seatbelts, on part of the Alcantara upholstery of the seats, on dashboard details, and overall it felt like being aboard a high-quality sports sedan with very good finishes. 

I wasn’t convinced by the system that requires touching the screen and using the steering wheel’s touch pads to adjust the position of the exterior mirrors. The climate control is also controlled via the central screen, with no alternative physical controls to adjust temperatures, airflow cycles, and other settings. 

On the move, I liked that the car felt very planted, with considerable stability and little body roll, unlike what we often see with some Chinese cars that prioritize ride comfort above all else. By switching among the different driving modes, I was indeed surprised by the huge difference between the Comfort mode, where power delivery is very softened, and the Sport mode where the car responds promptly and decisively to the slightest pedal input. 

We then moved to the 7X, an SUV that left me with a very noticeable sense of interior quality, especially due to the materials feel, the fitting of the dashboard components, and notably because it features a very large central display and generally good fit. 

The car, just like the 001 we had just stepped out of, rode well; I felt it had a fairly precise steering feel, sufficiently firm suspension, and performance more than adequate for an average user. 

Overall, I think Zeekr has brought to market a range of cars that is more adapted to the European market than many other Chinese cars in their first entry into Europe. It makes sense, given they have been selling their vehicles for two years in other major markets such as Germany and the Nordic countries, and the R&D focus is on Europe.

The Zeekr lineup has already begun to be marketed in our country, and these are the prices including promotions, transport, and excluding registration, delivery charges or purchase incentives. 

All Zeekr electric cars arrive on the market with a 10-year warranty and, to dispel doubts about after-sales service quality, will have a spare-parts logistics warehouse located in Mejorada del Campo (Madrid), set up in collaboration with Kuehne+Nagel. 

From there they will manage the parts supply for the official network in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, enabling deliveries within 24 to 48 hours, as well as urgent 24-hour services for certain references.
