The Auto+ Plan 2026 for subsidies to purchase electric cars has been approved by the Council of Ministers with a funding allocation of 400 million euros, however it is not yet operational nor published in the BOE. By contrast, Madrid City Council has reactivated for 2026 the subsidies for electric car purchases under its Cambia 360 Aid Plan.
Since April 20, the application window for Cambia 360 subsidies for vehicle upgrades, boilers and charging installations is underway. The subsidies amount to a maximum of 5,500 euros for vehicles with a ZERO label, and ECO-labeled cars are also eligible for a bonus.
Subsidies for the purchase of electric and hybrid cars
The national Auto+ plan is taking longer than expected to come into effect. Official publication in the BOE is expected by the end of May 2026, with the application system up and running between May and June. The subsidies will be retroactive for purchases made since January 1, 2026. However, the aid plan already in operation is Madrid’s city plan. This year there is an initial budget of 9.7 million, expandable to 23.3 million.
For subsidies for private vehicles the application window runs April 20 to May 20, while for motorcycles and electric bikes and other personal mobility vehicles it runs from April 15 to September 15. As for subsidies for charging infrastructure, the application period is April 20 to May 20.
The subsidies for purchasing electric or hybrid cars vary depending on the vehicle’s environmental label. This year, in addition to excluding cars with the C label from the subsidies, there is an extra scrap bonus for cars with the B label.
- Vehicle with ZERO label (electric or PHEV): 4,000 €
- Vehicle with ECO label (non-plug-in hybrid): 2,000 €
- To these amounts, an extra 1,500 € applies if you scrap a vehicle without an environmental label or with label B.
What requirements must I meet to be eligible for the subsidies. The reservation, order, sale, registration, invoicing or payment of the vehicle must occur after the call’s publication in the Boletín Oficial de la Comunidad de Madrid. That is, any reservation, order or purchase made from April 20 is eligible to apply for the aid. The application must be made at dealerships participating in the program.
Subsidies for electric charging installations
In this case the window is the same as for cars, from April 20 to May 20, 2026, while the subsidy amounts are as follows:
- Residential parking, that is, in communities of property owners, up to 90% of the cost, with a maximum of €150,000.
- Residential private-use parking, that is, in private individual garages, up to 65% of the cost, with a maximum of €60,000.
