The Ford Expedition Timberline fired a warning shot at the Jeep Wagoneer when it debuted at the 2021 Motor Bella extravaganza in Detroit. While a mini monsoon prevented us from getting to know it better, Ford is confident that this flavor of Expedition will be a good Jeep rival. However, pricing information remained elusive. But thanks to a report from Ford Authority, it appears that Ford has covered all angles when it comes to dethroning the Wagoneer.
Trail Ready Fun That Stays Under $70k
Ford Authority claims that it gathered its findings from sources “familiar with the 2022 Expedition lineup.” which could perhaps point to a source at the dealer level. Either way, the leaked pricing appears to confirm that a base Expedition Timberline will start at $66,690 (the fore-mentioned $68k figure is after you include the $1,695 destination fee.) This allows the Timberline to undercut a Series II equipped Wagoneer 4×4 by over $5,400 and do it while also making more power and torque.Â
Meanwhile, the luxury-loaded Expedition Limited aims to help customers fulfill their inner Rockefeller fantasies thanks in part to its $68,475 MSRP. Like before, this base price is still under the $70,000 barrier before taxes and fees are factored in. It allows the Limited to be an interesting alternative to richer luxury SUVs like the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade and even select flavors of the Jeep Wagoneer.
Timberline Focuses On Improving The Essentials Versus An Outright Revamp
All Expedition Timberline models largely follow some of what we have seen on the smaller Explorer Timberline. The exterior styling is adorned with orange accents, model exclusive paint, and select components lifted from the F-150 Raptor and the Ford Bronco. All Expedition Timberlines are powered by a 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which now produces 440 hp and 510-lb-ft of torque. All this power is routed through a 10-speed automatic, and the meaty 33-inch all-terrain tires which play a role in helping the Expedition Timberline have 10.6 extra inches of ground clearance.
While the Timberline will perhaps be the closest thing to a Raptor model that the Expedition gets, for now, it’s still a very interesting offering for buyers that want to go out on the trail but might need to haul the entire family and their gear when doing it.Â
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is expected to begin production at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant later this fall, with the first examples making their way to dealerships early next year. Â
