Maybach Celebrates A Century Of Existence With S-Class Edition 100, Only 100 To Be Built

Mercedes-Maybach is celebrating 100 years of building bespoke ultra-luxury models. The brand has seen its fair share of ups and downs since Mercedes revived the moniker in the early 2000s. Its current iteration as a sub-brand (versus a slow-selling standalone brand) has allowed Maybach to have a renewed vigor and an impressive amount of success not only with its established S-Class-based creations but also in the SUV market with the Maybach GLS600 showing what it can bring to the growing market. Maybach has prepared a special birthday present for its unique clientele with the unveiling of the all-new Edition 100.

Inside And Out, Edition 100 Ratchets Up The Luxury

The posh Edition 100 is based on the V12 powered S680, but Maybach designers have made some distinct changes that help the Edition 100 stand out from the rest of the family. The exterior is painted with a two-tone paint scheme, with Cirrus Silver being complemented with Nautical Blue. The massive chrome wheels have a grey-tinted finish, and special Edition 100 logos appear on the C-Pillar.\

The interior is still a very bespoke place to spend time in. Still, while the core essentials are unchanged, Edition 100s add a two-tone interior with Crystal White leather infused with contrasting Silver Grey Pearl Leather. Edition 100 logos are sprinkled in select spots, including the passenger side of the dashboard. While it still might not quite match the luxury offered by Rolls Royce models, Edition 100 models appear to inch ever closer to surpassing that benchmark which is a commendable achievement for Maybach.

Smooth V12 Performance Carries Over Unchanged

With all the changes that were made to the exterior and the interior of these rare beasts, it should come as no shock that the mechanicals were left unchanged. No horsepower bump is found here, but the V12 still brings 621 hp and an equally impressive 738 lb-ft of torque to the driver’s right foot. Edition 100s send all of this power to all four wheels through the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which helps deliver true four-season capability.

The S680 (Maybach and standard form) are also the last stalwarts of the 12-cylinder luxury arts, with Mercedes reps themselves claiming that the V12 as we know it might not survive to see another generation of S-Class due to tightening fuel economy regulations as well as the limitations of the engine itself.

When Can I Buy An Edition 100 S680 Maybach?

If all of this sounds appealing to you and you have the financial resources to obtain one of these models for your garage, you better act quickly to secure your spot. Maybach is only producing 100 Edition 100 models, and the bulk of them are most likely going to the big three markets for Maybach offerings (China, Russia, and the United States) with no word on how many will be split among those three countries as well as other markets in the Middle East.

Pricing has not been announced either, but look for these models to be a noticeable step up from the base V8 powered S-Class Maybach, which has a starting price of $184,900. Buyers lucky enough to get one will get a full-size car cover as well as a leather bag to help store the owner’s manual, keys, and other essential documents. In addition to the cars themselves, Maybach will also be celebrating its anniversary in different ways, including releasing special edition accessories and other luxury goods.  Â
