Ford Goes Sub-Zero With Mustang and Mach-E Ice White Edition Packages

We’ll admit we felt like we were being transported to our local bar trivia game when Ford reps played the final hype music for the unveiling of the Ice White Edition Package for both the Mustang and Mach-E EV CUV. Our host sometimes plays music clues to slyly provide a free answer to trivia players (assuming that they can catch on to the song lyrics.) In this case, Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby played proudly through the speakers before switching to another song about ice. At this point, we suspected ice was somehow involved, and our suspicions were proven correct with the company revealing the all-new Ford Mustang Ice White Edition.

An Interesting Styling Excercise

Unlike some other special edition models that we have seen over the years, this package does not do a whole lot to the duo, with no performance upgrades to speak of. Instead, it focuses on commonality and gives the Mustang and its CUV counterpart a whited-out treatment. Thankfully, the controversial musician was not the source material for this package; rather, Ford wanted to pay homage to a prior white package that appeared on old Fox-body Mustangs from roughly the same era. Fox-body Mustangs (especially in the mid-80s and 90s) were an instant hit with consumers, and they rapidly became one of the most iconic Mustang iterations ever to see production.

As for the current state of affairs, the two models don’t share a single hue of white but rather have two different shades of the bright stuff. The Mach-E uses a tri-coat color called Star White Metallic with the otherworldly hue complimenting trim exclusive 19-inch aluminum wheels with whited-out pockets. The interior also gets a grey interior which features contrast stitching. Meanwhile, the Mustang coupe uses the tried and true Oxford White paint scheme with white-hued 19-inch wheels complimenting a two-tine grey and white interior. Both models have whited out badges, though, and the coupe thankfully keeps the red dot between the five and the zero.

Ice White Edition Limited To Select Trims

A prominent caveat with these models is that Ford will limit the Ice White Edition to certain trims. In the case of the conventional Mustang, the package can only be equipped with Ecoboost and GT Premium models, while the Mach-E makes it a Premium trim exclusive. Ford did not reveal how much the Ice White Edition treatment adds to the price, but the company did confirm that ordering for the Mach-E version will begin in the fall. Coupe buyers get to wait a bit longer for their cars to arrive, with those models not expected to arrive until sometime in 2022.

Special edition models have become a very potent selling tool for many automakers in recent years. While the folks at Stellantis may have written the proverbial book on all the ways, you can source up a nameplate with such a package. Ford thinks that it can easily bring the fight to its rivals in Auburn Hills, and the Ice White Edition will certainly appeal to young buyers or even older buyers looking for something that still stands out from the crowd but without being too flashy.
