2022 Jeep Compass Gains Tech And Poise In Windy City Debut

The 2022 Jeep Compass might have made its debut all the way back in 2020, but the U.S. market has an insatiable appetite for CUVs, and Jeep knows that it has to stay ahead of the game when it comes to winning over buyers in this country. As such, it has chosen to bring the updated model stateside finally, and it appears that Jeep could be onto something here.

Jeep’s Compass Points More Confidently With New Exterior Styling

Buyers looking to spot any differences in the 2022 Jeep Compass will be forgiven if they can’t really tell it apart from the outgoing model. Unlike other updates, this round of changes is more or less a minor touch-up job aimed at making the Compass stay fresh. The front fascia benefits from new LED headlights and what appears to be a slightly tweaked front grille, with the rear fascia featuring slightly revised taillights. As a bonus, Jeep revealed that some models will have the ability to have full LED lighting front and back when properly optioned. This seemingly minor change could be a way to try and create more of a separation between it and its bargain-basement corporate sibling, the Renegade.

Interior Goes First Class With All New Updates

But while the exterior prefers to fly under the radar, the interior is a far different story and goes all out in its attempts to draw attention. Slip inside, and an all-new dashboard greets you while the infotainment system can now be upgraded with a 10.1-inch screen. The instrument cluster also benefits from an infusion of modern tech, with Jeep adding an optional 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. A reworked multi-function steering wheel adds more functionality, and Jeep even claims that it feels much better in your hands when going through town.

But the goodies don’t stop here, with even rear passengers getting a taste of the good life with heated and cooled rear seats. This is the first time such a feature has ever been offered in a Compass, and we can’t think of too many other CUVs in its segment that offer both heat and cooling. Jeep engineers also infused the Compass with over 75 different safety and driver assistance features, allegedly more than any other CUV in the segment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are along for the ride, with Alexa capability being added for the new model year.

Familiar Trim Ladder And Performance Hardware Goes Full Circle

With the interior benefitting from the bulk of the updates this time around, it should come as no surprise that the trim ladder and performance hardware has largely been left alone. Customers that visit Jeep showrooms will see familiar trims like the Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk, but an all-new Latitude LUX model adds a few luxury-focused extras for buyers that want a Compass in the middle of the trim ladder.

Performance for the 2022 Compass continues to be covered by the familiar 2.4 liter Tigershark four-cylinder. It still produces 177 horsepower and is still paired to either a six-speed automatic or an optional nine-speed box for all-wheel-drive variants. Jeep did not release any fuel economy figures but look for those numbers to not deviate too much from the outgoing model.

When Will We See The 2022 Jeep Compass?

Jeep did not reveal availability for the 2022 Compass but with the busy pool of launches that Stellantis has on its plate this year, look for the Compass to have a quick launch to dealerships, with the first units possibly being shipped out later this year. We hope to hear more about final pricing on the Compass, which will most likely see minimal changes when the numbers are compared to the outgoing model.
